New visitor center omits America's religious past

A Virginia Republican congressman says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and veteran Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) are allowing the new $621 million Visitor Center for the U.S. Capitol to become a "shrine to political correctness" that omits the significant role Christian faith played in the founding of the U.S. government.



The Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) in Washington, D.C., is currently under construction but scheduled to open in December to an estimated 15,000 people a day. Virginia Representative Randy Forbes contends the exhibits displayed in the Visitor Center contain few and factually inaccurate references to the nation's religious heritage.

If anyone is interested in facts, I would suggest reading Christianity and the Constitution by John Eidsmoe. Excellent book with a multitude of sourced material proving the biblical foundation of the United States.

For example, ever heard the idea that the founders were deists? Here are some facts:

8 Presbyterians
7 Congregationalists
2 Lutherans
2 Dutch Reformed
2 Methodists
2 Roman Catholics
3 Deists

Deism was not the religion of our founding fathers. Only 3 out of 55 delegates were deists, or 5.5%
