Gone are the days when the Peace Prize meant prestige; when people (or organizations) like Pope John Paul II, Lech Walesa, and al-Sadat/Begin actually accomplished feats worthy of it.

I never understood why the Nobel committee gave President Obama this award. I also never understood why he accepted it.

Honestly, I think his acceptance was a tell-tale sign of the nihilism of his inability to be self-aware. A greater leader would have demurred, respectfully turned down the award and let the committee know they could reconsider him following his administration. His acceptance was, imho, the first sign of a feeble leader.

He's only proved many right on that too. The only Nobel Peace Prize winner to lead his country into four new armed conflicts.
