Observations Upon Sister White & SDA Doctrines

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).

It takes only a nominal amount of research to discover Ellen White claimed to speak the Word of the Lord in the Name of the Lord. She claimed either God was speaking directly to her, through Word or vision, or an angel was guiding and dictating that which God willed her to know. She, in turn, like any worthy Old Testament or New Testament prophet, declared God’s message to the people. This was done faithfully, accurately and powerfully, without any embellishments or deletions, she vowed.

It is also a fact, requiring minimal confirmation via reliable Internet sources, the SDA church recognizes her prophetic office as God ordained and not to be questioned. Her writings are cited as authoritative, no matter the subject matter. In their estimation, Mrs. White’s ministerial gift of prophecy was given to help guide their ‘remnant’ church through the perilous end times. Her writings are to be viewed as an essential aid to their church specifically, giving clarity, focus and strength during the soon to come ‘times of trouble.’

The Scripture cited above is directed to all serious Christians, no matter the denomination. It is a warning; one of innumerable warnings we find in God’s Word. The scope of this thread is to examine the spirits of Sister White and Seventh-day Adventism. Are they of God? Yes or No? I will only use official SDA authorities when citing Sister White or SDA doctrine.

The Spirit of Prophecy Volume 1 (source)

In chapter 1, The Fall of Satan, Sister White gives us a behind the scenes glimpse as to what transpired in the throne room of God. Throughout her discourse we must simply take her word that ‘these things be so.’ We little folk have no way of being good Bereans who, like those of old, checked Paul’s doctrine against Scripture. Mrs. White’s visions have no scriptural authority whatever.

Clues That Her Spirit is Not of God

First, she does not refer to the Son as the eternal Son of God or the Word, or even the Wisdom of God. Instead, she refers to Him as ‘Jesus Christ,’ the name given the Lord at His fleshly birth and not before. Thus, either Scripture was confused or Sister White was the one confused in declaring the man, Christ Jesus, to be present at Satan’s fall. Moreover, before the Word became flesh, He was Spirit. Spirits are invisible, existing without bodies. Yet that fact doesn’t hamper White’s ability to discern the main players, their actions, motives and secret emotions. Nor does it concern the SDA church the anti-biblical nature of her ‘revelations’ because:

    (1) A foundational doctrine of orthodox Christianity is the Sufficiency of Scripture. The Bible declares, in several verses throughout God’s Word, everything the Lord deems necessary for us to know concerning salvation, God, man and practical living is given in Holy Scripture. The two witnesses of Rev. 11, representative of all true prophets, measure the professing Christian Church (the spiritual Temple of God) by means of the only rule of faith and practice: the Holy Scriptures, our heavenly measuring rod.

    (2) Sister White is adding to God’s Word that which is outside the scope of revealed scriptural truth. This is condemned in Deut. 4:2 & Rev. 22:18-19.

    (3) The Apostle Paul was given a heavenly experience, but was forbidden to give details (2 Cor. 12:1-5). Yet Sister White was given carte blanche. Compare the heavenly visions of the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah, as well as those of John, with those of Mrs. White. Sister White writes with the flourish of a woman enrolled in an adult evening class which teaches high school level creative writing. A similar observation is made when comparing the KJ Bible with the Book of Mormon.

“Satan was envious and jealous of Jesus Christ,” the Sister tells us. All the angels bowed to Him, including Satan. How non-material spirits ‘bow’ is not revealed. Later, Satan calls a conference of the angelic host. His rights, as well as theirs, have been ‘invaded.’ It was Satan who should have been named ‘commander,’ not Christ. “He promised them a new and better government than they then had, in which all would be freedom.”

[Long story short…..] “All the heavenly host were summoned to appear before the Father, to have each case determined. Satan unblushingly made known his dissatisfaction that Christ should be preferred before him……Good angels wept to hear the words of Satan, and his exulting boasts.”

It should be noted throughout her exposition Sister White emphasizes Satan’s hatred of God’s Law: “Satan grew bold in his rebellion, and expressed his contempt of the Creator’s law. This Satan could not bear. He claimed that angels needed no law; but should be left free to follow their own will, which would ever guide them right; that law was a restriction of their liberty, and that to abolish law was one great object of his standing as he did.”

It would seem Mrs. White is carefully laying the groundwork for legitimately accusing those who do not keep the 7th-day sabbath law as law-breakers whose works are those of their father, Satan, a law-breaker from the beginning.

    Chapter Two – The Creation

Not one to disappoint, Sister White gives us many ‘interesting’ details which Scripture somehow neglected to inform us. For example, Adam was twice the height of modern man, his wife slightly shorter. His complexion was ruddy. He was a specimen of perfect health and well proportioned. Eve was ‘perfect in symmetry and very beautiful.’ Although they wore no garments, ‘a circle of light enshrouded them.’

Curiously, there was no mention of the Holy Spirit when describing the creative work of God. Her retelling the creation story concerns only the Father and Son.

“Very happy were the holy pair in Eden.” Lion and lambs were the best of friends. “Birds of every variety of color and plumage flitted among the trees and flowers, and about Adam and Eve, while their mellow toned music echoed among the trees in sweet accord to the praises of their Creator.”

Chapter 3 – The Temptation and Fall

Had Mrs. White simply admitted being a religious fantasy fiction writer, in the opinion of this present writer I would grant that she was capable. However, once she broached the temptation and fall, her credence as God’s messenger fails miserably for several reasons:

    (1) Incredibly, she has neglected to state Genesis 2:3, the Bible verse which the SDA church cite as the very reason for their existence.

    (2) She adds to Holy Writ that which is not commanded. “In the midst of the garden, near the tree of life, stood the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This tree was especially designed of God to be the pledge of their obedience, faith and love to him. Of this tree the Lord commanded our first parents not to eat, neither to touch it, lest they die.” (Genesis 2:16-17).

    (3) She invents an implausible meeting between Satan and ‘Christ’ whereby Satan repents of his rebellion, asking only to be reinstated to his former position in Heaven. According to the prophetess, “Christ wept at Satan’s woe.” Alas, “the seeds of rebellion were still within him” and pardon was not possible. This being the case, “he manifested his malice with increased hatred and fiery vehemence.”

    (4) She invents a meeting between two ‘good’ angels and Adam and Eve: “God assembled the angelic host to take measures to avert the threatened evil. It was decided in Heaven’s council for angels to visit Eden and warn Adam that he was in danger from the foe. Two angels sped on their way to visit our first parents…….” These angels explained Satan and his rebellion to the innocent couple. They were to be on guard, because Satan would somehow attempt them to disobey the law of God. “They were moral agents free to obey or disobey.” Here the prophetess changes the nature of the test given Adam. She imagines an explicit warning given by angels. Apparently the original warning given by the Lord was insufficient to be heeded. God needed back-up.

    (5) Although Sister White and the SDA church exalt 7th-day Sabbath-keeping as cited in Genesis 2:3, the breaking of this law is not an issue. Instead, it is the breaking the law regarding the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that is at issue. “There was but one prohibition that God had seen fit to lay upon them as yet. If they should transgress the will of God, they would surely die.”

CONCLUSION: Had there been two prohibitions, the one not to eat of the tree, the other not to break the Sabbath, the central tenet of the SDA church involving Sabbath-keeping might be plausible. But alas, as much as the prophetess White kept hammering the necessity of keeping God’s holy Law, their most holy Law of Sabbath-keeping was completely omitted in her ‘infallible’ re-telling of the Fall of Man.

What is scary is that they talk out of both sides of their mouth, as on one hand say scriptures final authority and only inspired, and yet if any goes against what EW taught, they get broomed out!

Observations Upon Sister White & SDA Doctrines – Part 2

Chapter 4 – The Plan of Salvation (Source)

Once again, Sister White, observes a heavenly Jesus as a mortal, for only a mortal can have expressions revealing emotions. He is so sad at the death sentence given Adam’s family. Her ‘accompanying angel’ explains Jesus has gone into the presence of the Father for “close converse.” It takes three such “close converses” before Jesus emerged, his countenance changed. “His countenance was calm, free from all perplexity and trouble, and shone with benevolence and loveliness, such as words cannot express,” the prophetess relates. Her next statements bear repeating word for word:

“He then made known to the angelic host that a way of escape had been made for lost man. He told them that he had been pleading with his Father, and had offered to give his life a ransom, and take the sentence of death upon himself, that through him man might find pardon; that through the merits of his blood, and obedience to the law of God, they could have the favor of God, and be brought into the beautiful garden, and eat of the fruit of the tree of life.”

    This is a False Gospel

If ever there were a clear statement promulgating grace plus works to earn salvation, this is it.

In the introductory chapters of the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul explains how both Jews and Gentiles fail to keep either the written Law or the Law of conscience written in their hearts. He then concludes how man is justified:

…. Because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin...For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law (Romans 3:20, 28).

The Galatians were intent on preaching a Gospel which was a mix of grace plus works, like the SDA church. Paul calls it a perversion of the Gospel which he preached. Such preachers are cursed of God (Gal. 1:6-8). He reiterates:

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified. (Gal. 2:16).

Justifying faith is a living faith, not dead, devoid of works. It is a faith which places trust, hope and confidence in Christ’s perfect Law-keeping, not in one’s personal Law-keeping…..whatever that may be.

Justifying faith is the miraculous gift of God, for it is impossible for man dead in sins and trespasses to love and obey, with a living faith, that which he naturally despises and opposes.

It is the creative omnipotent gracious gift of God which raises us from spiritual death to spiritual eternal life:

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them (Ezekiel 36:26-27).

    And you hath he quickened [made alive, regenerated], who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:1-2).

Saving faith originates in saving grace, which is the gift of God, according to His sovereign will:

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

Neither the will of man nor the works of man have anything to contribute to God’s sovereign eternal will, for He worketh all things after the counsel of his own will (Ephesians 1:11).

How different is biblical teaching from SDA teaching!

Ellen White claimed that her angel showed her that in the IJ, that we will not have Jesus as our mediator, and that we need to have been obeying the law as well as jesus did, what angel would tell her that?

Yes, religious America has much to be 'proud.'
The later New Age religions are also of our creation: Scientology, EST, Eckankar, etc.

The RCC has been given special and unique attention in Revelation, 2 Thess. 2, 1 Timothy 4, etc.
Islam does not claim to be Christian, so is not as big a threat to 'covertly' undermine orthodox Christianity.

Observations Upon Sister White & SDA Doctrines – Part 3

    Sister White’s Overt Plagiarism

The Spirit of Prophecy, Volume 4 (Source)

While perusing Advent pastor Walter Rea’s expose, The White Lie, (which is conveniently posted online here), I was struck by the fact that pastor Rea discovered several paragraphs in which Sister White recounted the history of the Waldenses that were, in fact, lifted from J. A. Wylie’s classic work, The History of Protestantism. The three-volumes were originally published from 1874-77, well before the 1884 date of Sister White’s publication of volume 4, leaving little doubt the volumes were included in her extensive 1,200 book library. The section in question concerns the chapter on the Waldenses. She used this material in her signature work, The Great Controversy.

It just so happens, I, too, have a photocopy of the Wylie editions. Thus, I began comparing her text with that of Rev. Wylie. What I found was truly shocking. Her plagiarism is much more extensive than Rea realized. Let me begin by citing the Preface of The Spirit of Prophecy, volume 4:

“We believe that the writer has received the illumination of the Holy Spirit in preparing these pages.” I will now disprove this assertion.

    (1) EGW: “In Great Britain a primitive Christianity had very early taken root. Faithful men had preached the gospel in that country with great zeal and success. Among the leading evangelists was an observer of the Bible Sabbath, and thus this truth found its way among the people for whom he labored.” This so-called leading evangelist doesn’t exist, which is why he is nameless.

    (2) EGW: “In lands beyond the jurisdiction of Rome, there existed for many centuries bodies of Christians who remained almost wholly free from papal corruption….. These Christians believed in the perpetuity of the law of God, and observed the Sabbath of the fourth commandment. Churches that held to this faith and practice, existed in Central Africa and among the Armenians of Asia.” There is not one shred of proof for this assertion because they don’t exist.

    (3) EGW: “But of those who resisted the encroachments of the papal power, the Waldenses stood foremost. For centuries the churches of Piedmont maintained their independence; but the time came at last when Rome demanded their submission……. A considerable number, however, refused to yield to the authority of pope or prelate. They were determined to maintain their allegiance to God, and to preserve the purity and simplicity of their faith. A separation took place. Some of the protesters crossed the Alps, and raised the standard of truth in foreign lands. Others retired into the more secluded valleys among the mountains, and there maintained their freedom to worship God.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, pp. 24-25): “A considerable body of Protesters stood out against this deed of submission. Of these some crossed the Alps…and raised the standard in opposition in the diocese of Cologne…..Others retired into the valleys of the Piedmontese Alps, and there maintained their scriptural faith…. they preserved in its purity and simplicity the faith their fathers had handed down to them.”

    (4) EGW: “The religious belief of the Waldenses was founded upon the written word of God, the true system of Christianity, and was in marked contrast to the errors of Rome. But those herdsmen and vine-dressers, in their obscure retreats, shut away from the world, had not themselves arrived at the truth in opposition to the dogmas and heresies of the apostate church. Theirs was not a faith newly received. Their religious belief was their inheritance from their fathers.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, pp. 25-26): “…..as regards their [Waldenses] religious belief……Or how could these herdsmen and vine-dressers, shut up in their mountains, have detected the errors against which they bore testimony……If we grant that their religious beliefs were the heritage of former ages, handed down from an evangelical ancestry…”

    (5) EGW: “Among the leading causes that had led to the separation of the true church from Rome, was the inveterate hatred of the latter toward the Bible Sabbath.” This is a great lie. The Waldenses were not 7th-day Sabbath-keepers, as is proved by the numerous existing Confessions and Inquisition transcripts available in ancient and recent publications. Not once did the Roman Church accuse them of denying worship on the 1st-day. Nor did they accuse Catholics of breaking the Sabbath-day. (List of heresies may be found here)

    (6) EGW: “The Waldenses were the first of all the peoples of Europe to obtain a translation of the Scriptures.” This is another lie. Click here.

    (7) EGW: “From earliest childhood the youth were instructed in the Scriptures, and taught to sacredly regard the claims of the law of God. Copies of the Bible were rare; therefore its precious words were committed to memory. Many were able to repeat large portions of both the Old and the New Testament.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, p. 29): “The youth…. used as their text-book the Holy Scriptures. And not only did they study the sacred volume; they were required to commit to memory, and be able accurately to recite whole Gospels and Epistles……copies of the Word of God were rare.”

    (8) EGW: “The church of the Alps, in its purity and simplicity, resembled the church in the first centuries.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, p. 29): “The Church of the Alps, in the simplicity of its constitution, may be held to have been a reflection of the Church of the first centuries.”

    (9) EGW: “On the grassy slopes of the valleys, or in some sheltered glen among the hills, the people gathered about the servants of Christ to listen to the words of truth.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, p. 29): “We can imagine them seated – it may be on the grassy slopes of the valley….”

    (10) EGW: “It was a law among them that all who entered the ministry should, before taking charge of a church at home, serve three years in the missionary field. As the hands of the men of God were laid upon their heads, the youth saw before them, not the prospect of earthly wealth or glory, but possibly a martyr’s fate.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, p. 30): “It was an old law among them that all who took orders in their Church should, before being eligible to a home charge, serve three years in the mission field. The youth on whose head the assembled barbes [pastors] laid their hands, saw in prospect, not a rich benefice, but a possible martyrdom.”

    (11) EGW: “The missionaries began their labors in the plains and valleys at the foot of their own mountains, going forth two and two, as Jesus sent out his disciples. These co-laborers were not always together, but often met for prayer and counsel, thus strengthening each other in the faith. To make known the nature of their mission would have insured its defeat; therefore they concealed their real character under the guise of some secular profession, most commonly that of merchants or peddlers. They offered for sale silks, jewelry, and other valuable articles, and were received as merchants where they would have been repulsed as missionaries.”

WYLIE (Volume 1, p. 30): “Their mission field was the realms that lay outspread at the foot of their own mountains. They went forth two and two, concealing their real character under the guise of a secular profession, most commonly that of merchants or pedlars [sic]. They carried silks, jewelry, and other articles…..and they were welcomed as merchants where they would have been spurned as missionaries.”

CONCLUSION: If there were no other plagiarized documents of Sister White’s in existence, this alone would be sufficient evidence to prove her spirit to be that of her father, the Devil, the father of lies. Her spirit guides are adept at plagiarizing religious materials. Sometimes these guides summarize the existing material using different adjectives and verbs. Other times they have no problem lifting entire phrases. Today universities have software programs to detect such deceit. Sister White was unscrupulous in her unrelenting quest to steal material from those who actually did the years of research and writing, all to further her alleged 'Spirit of Prophecy.'

Before I go running down false religions I take a good look in the mirror... Do we excuse false doctrine in our own?... I have many good friends that are SDA and though I do not agree with their doctrine, White articles on health are nothing to be sneezed at... We would be a lot healthier if we followed them and because of them I'm more or less a Vegetarian... If I wasn't now I can tell you without reservation, I would be dead.

Though I am not SDA, I'm Baptist her other doctrines are no concern to me but I also feel it serves no purpose for me... Those brethren on here who seem to think it is their God given duty to root out false doctrine, go ahead but there are wheat among the tares... Or hasn't the Bible taught you anything?... The Lord knows the difference, do you?... AH!... But you think you do?... I have personally talked with SDA's who believe more in Christ than the writing of Ellen White, have you?... And this what the Lord said, who think they are the Lord's judge... But BEWARE because the Lord also said this!

Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

I have no use for James or Ellen White. I did not say the same about the followers. Here in one of her writings she says it is a sin to be sick....

Many have inquired of me, “What course shall I take to best preserve my health?” My answer is, Cease to transgress the laws of your being; cease to gratify a depraved appetite; eat simple food; dress healthfully, which will require modest simplicity; work healthfully; and you will not be sick. It is a sin to be sick, for all sickness is the result of transgression. Many are suffering in consequence of the transgression of their parents. They cannot be censured for their parents’ sin; but it is nevertheless their duty to ascertain wherein their parents violated the laws of their being, which has entailed upon their offspring so miserable an inheritance; and wherein their parents’ habits were wrong, they should change their course, and place themselves by correct habits in a better relation to health. Men and women should inform themselves in regard to the philosophy of health. The minds of rational beings seem shrouded in darkness in regard to their own physical structure, and how to preserve it in a healthy condition. The present generation have trusted their bodies with the doctors and their souls with the ministers. Do they not pay the minister well for studying the Bible for them, that they need not be to the trouble? and is it not his business to tell them what they must believe, and to settle all doubtful questions of theology without special investigation on their part? If they are sick, they send for the doctor—believe whatever he may tell, and swallow anything he may prescribe; for do they not pay him a liberal fee, and is it not his business to understand their physical ailments, and what to prescribe to make them well, without their being troubled with the matter? ... So closely is health related to our happiness, that we cannot have the latter without the former. A practical knowledge of the science of human life is necessary in order to glorify God in our bodies. It is therefore of the highest importance that among the studies selected for childhood, physiology should occupy the first place. How few know anything about the structure and functions of their own bodies and of nature's laws! Many are drifting about without knowledge, like a ship at sea without compass or anchor; and what is more, they are not interested to learn how to keep their bodies in a healthy condition and prevent disease. tyndale 1946 brings up an argument that deserves an answer:

“I have personally talked with SDA's who believe more in Christ than the writing of Ellen White, have you?”

He also declares that, although he doesn’t agree with their doctrine, he has many good friends who are SDA.

I doubt there are any on this board who disagree that, in worldly terms, there are many ‘good’ people in all religions…. Including SDAs, atheists and agnostics.

Even Adolph Hitler had a tender heart for German children and dogs.

But when it comes to eternal truth, ‘good’ is to be measured by God alone.

As Jesus started on His way, a man ran up and knelt before Him. “Good Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Why do you call me good? Jesus replied. No one is good except God alone (Mark 10:17-18).

This thread has been dealing with the official claims of Ellen White and the SDA Church.

The SDA Church claims EGW is a lesser prophet than those who contributed to the Old and New Testaments, but a prophet of God nonetheless. The following is cited from the 1957 Seventh-day Adventists Answer QUESTIONS on DOCTRINE:

“Seventh-day Adventists regard her writings as containing inspired counsel and instruction concerning personal religion and the conduct of our denominational work. Under the same inspiration she also wrote much in the great field of sacred history, covering the experiences of God's people from the creation of the world to the ultimate establishment of the kingdom of God, with special emphasis on eschatology” (source)

Her voluminous writings are used in conjunction with the Bible, though they contradict the very Bible the SDAs claim to hold as their supreme authority. Their Adventist universities give advanced degrees on ‘The Writings of Ellen G. White.’ (source)

In 1874 admission into SDA fellowship contained the following baptismal vow: “[14] Do you recognize that the remnant church has the Spirit of Prophecy, and that this has been manifested to this church through the writings of Ellen G. White? Rev. 12:17; 19:10.” (source)

In 1932 the vow was changed: “[18] Do you believe the Bible doctrine of "spiritual gifts" in the church, and do you believe in the gift of the Spirit of prophecy which has been manifested in the remnant church through the ministry and writings of Mrs. E. G. White?” (ibid.)

In 2000 Mrs. White’s name was deleted, but her gift of prophecy remained: “[8] Do you accept the biblical teaching of spiritual gifts and believe that the gift of prophecy is one of the identifying marks of the remnant church?” (ibid.)

    Why the Change?

There are differences of opinion as to whether belief in the prophetic office of Sister White should be a test of fellowship. Here is a link to an in-depth discussion on the matter.

The essay concludes by citing the 1990 General Conference [the equivalent of the Papal Curia], “Belief in Ellen White's gift of prophetic utterance still remains, very strongly, a ‘teaching’ of the church; and we affirm most vigorously that it should continue to be taught within the church affirmatively, with diligence and vigor. But, though a teaching, it never has been-nor is it now-a 'test' of fellowship in our church” (source).

    What???

Although the SDA Church believes and teaches the prophetic utterances of EGW as divine truth, it is not necessary for a proselyte to believe this??

Why on earth would someone join into fellowship with a body of believers who held the writings and visions of EGW were sacred truth if he/she did not believe they were inspired?

Why would the unbelieving proselyte want to subject him/herself to a constant barrage of EGW ‘Testimonies’ if they are not revered by the unbeliever as they are in the SDA Church?

Conclusion: The SDA Church understands there are significant problems with Sister White and her prophecies, thus the need to downplay her role in the SDA Church. This present writer has shown Sister White to be a blatant plagiarist using her official writings. Her visions of Heaven, angels and Jesus are the fanciful, fictitious dreams of a deluded woman seeking spiritual power over the ignorant, the naive, and the uneducated. True prophets of God, whether major or lesser, do not lie.

Thus, the SDA Church holds, as divinely inspired, the teachings and utterances of a prophetic liar.

As such, they are Christian in name only.

Furthermore, it is impossible to deny Sister White’s Spirit of Prophecy and remain SDA.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial?

Observations Upon Sister White & SDA Doctrines – Part 4

Was Sister White a Witch who Channeled Familiar Spirits?

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God (Deuteronomy 18:10-13).

Consulting with familiar spirits is alive and well today. Theresa Caputo, the Long Island Medium, is proof.

A Medium is an alleged intermediary between mortals and spirits. The spirits may be the dead, in which case the Medium is a necromancer. Such is the case with Ms. Caputo who claims to contact dead relatives. The messages she relates are always uplifting. Had her messages contained horrific descriptions of torment in Hell, her ‘ministry’ would soon fall out of favor.

Another type of Medium is seen in Erin Pavlina.

She claims contact with several different ‘spirit guides.’ Their specialties vary. Some know details of past lives. Some know details about the future. Some know details about relationships. Some can help in decision-making. Ms. Pavlina’s has been a professional ‘intuitive’ who has given ‘readings’ since 2006. For hundreds of dollars you, too, can be told lies masquerading as divine portends.

Ms. Pavlina describes her spirit guides as “non-corporeal entities assigned to you before you were born that help you navigate your life and help you get what you desire.” She has learned to distinguish between six kinds of spirit guides: Dominant, Personal, Helper Guides, Temporary Guides, Conduit Guides and Informational Guides.

The Bible assigns names to these same spirits: Principalities, Powers, Rulers of the darkness of this world and Spiritual Wickedness in high places.

Medium is another name for ‘Witch’

Had the TLC network called their show, The Long Island Witch, their initial viewership would have consisted of children and teens seeking thrills and chills. Mature audiences would ignore it. But the average Bible unbeliever finds nothing spooky or profane in being entertained by a Medium.

    Sister White Channeled Familiar Spirits

Much like the spirits who guided Erin Pavlina, Sister White admits she has “guides.” She calls those guides ‘angels.’ Angels are ‘spirits.’ Mrs. White’s spirits are ‘familiar.’ They are friendly, helpful, personal spirit guides who serve to give her knowledge, along with several abilities and powers:

    · The ability to write volumes of materials about numerous subjects, though they be plagiarized.

    · The power to entice and keep a devoted following of subjects who do not question her claims or authority.

Mrs. White’s spirit guides are actually demons who speak lies which she obediently repeats as God’s Word.

    Sister White and Her ‘Guides’

“I was told by my Guide: Look ye, and behold the idolatry of My people, to whom I have been speaking, rising up early, and presenting to them their dangers” (Source).

“I have been informed by my guide that not only should those who believe the truth practice health reform but they should also diligently teach it to others” (Source).

“In a short time I had another dream…. soon the door opened, and a person of beautiful form and countenance entered. He looked upon me with pity. Said he, ‘Do you wish to see Jesus?’…. He led me to a steep, and it looked like a frail stairway. Many seemed to be climbing up, and some fell before reaching the top. I succeeded in climbing to the top. Then my guide bid me lay everything at the door…..the loving eyes of Jesus were fixed upon me still, and he smiled upon me. His presence filled me with such holy awe that I could not endure it. My guide opened the door and I passed out” (Source).

Sister White Experiences Hypnotic Trances Through Self-Hypnosis Which Opens the Door for Her Spirit Guides

The following description of Ellen White going into trance is from Life Incidents, in Connection with the Great Advent Movement as Illustrated by the Three Angels of Revelation 14, by Elder James White; (1868, pp. 271-73):

“It was but a few weeks after the passing of the time, in 1844, when she had her first vision. The circumstances of this manifestation are briefly stated by Mrs. W. as follows: ‘I visited sister H; one of our Advent sisters, whose heart was knit with mine. In the morning we bowed at the family altar. It was not an exciting occasion. There were but five of us present, all females. While praying, the power of God came upon me, as I never had felt it before. I was surrounded with light, and was rising higher and higher from the earth, etc. Her condition in vision may be described as follows:

    (1) “She is utterly unconscious of everything transpiring around her, as has been proved by the most rigid tests, but views herself removed from this world, and in the presence of heavenly beings.”

    (2) “She does not breathe. During the entire period of her continuance in vision, which has at different times ranged from 15 minutes to 3 hours, there is no breath, as has been repeatedly proved by pressing upon the chest, and by closing the mouth and nostrils.”

    (3) “Immediately on entering vision, whether at day-time or a well-lighted room at night, all is total darkness……She has probably had, during the past 23 years, between one and two hundred visions.”

Sister White was ‘surrounded with light’ when she entered her first vision. It never occurred to her or the SDA church that Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Sister White was Demon Possessed as was Spirit Medium, Jane Roberts

Roberts (d. 1984), a writer by profession, was ‘famous’ for channeling an ancient spirit called ‘Seth’ (source). Her writing frequently focused on science fiction fantasy, as well as clairvoyance and reincarnation. It was during a session with a Ouija board that ‘Seth’ emerged. Soon, ‘Seth’ began dictating messages through Jane, thereby eliminating the need for the Ouija board.

According to the Wiki article, “Roberts described the process of writing the Seth books as entering a trance state. She said Seth would assume control of her body and speak through her, while her husband wrote down the words she spoke. They referred to such episodes as ‘readings’ or ‘sessions.’”

CONCLUSION: Demon possession is as real today as it was in the days of Christ. The SDA church is willing to dismiss the enormous evidence which proves Ellen White’s spirit is not of God. Her ‘testimony’ is actually the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders (2 Thess. 2:9). Only the irresistible grace of God can overcome the strong delusion which they will believe until their dying day unless the Lord sovereignly intervenes.

Her angel no doubt was same one to spoke to Joseph Smith! Her only good books were the ones where she copied good authors, as all of her so called visions were trash!
