Dells are fine for basic computing... as long as you don't even think about overclocking or upgrading anything other than memory or hard drives. Dell gives their systems no growth potential, and use proprietary parts.
I have to admit that their customer service is ususally pretty good, as long as you get someone who can speak your language and is not reading off of a cue card.

as well as their prices lately. I usually build my own but their prices are getting down where I can hardly do that any more.

got one the other day on some phone line, that I could barely tell they were using English, finally hung up and tried again.
What I love is the email service some companies give. Ask question "A" and get answers to questions "D" and "H" with no mention of question "A"
One the other day suggested I try everything that I mentioned in the email that I had tried
