Open Season on Big Oil

A few Democratic Senators had a hearing today on gasoline prices. They had one witness who proposed taking away all money from oil companies that they earn over $25 per barrel. Apparently they took his idea seriously since they didn't laugh the fella out of the hearing room. That idea would really give us an incentive to drill for more oil.

Reminds me of the 1970's ...

Texas oil HAD to be sold at fixed prices to northern states. For some reason I am thinking that the fixed price was not that much lower than $25/barrel might have been as low as 12 ...

Here is my solution to what I percieve to be the obvious price gouging in which oil CEO's enrich themselves by exploiting human suffering:

1. Drive Less
2. Don't accept the high price when there is a lower price in town. Shop around.
3. Fill up less.
4. Let the free market send a message to these immoral billionaires that the public is not going to stand for it, and not only that, the more they raise prices, the less we will buy. Perhaps, even organize a large group of folks to pick a different day each week and not get any gas on that day until prices go down to an acceptable level (I think at this point in time, $.95 per gallon should be more than enough). As they start to bring prices down, agree to drive more and buy more. If they don't bring it down to where your target is, drive less and buy less until they do. Reciprocity is what is needed.

Your perception is so far off of the mark, Joseph, it is indescribable. Maybe you need to check out the NYMEX next time before you post.

By the way, if what will soon be Hurricane Rita comes ashore in the Houston area and those refineries have to be shut down for a few days you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to gasoline prices.

KenH be honest isn't your mass apology for
Oil having to do with your own personal job security and stock portfolio...come on quit with
the holier than thou preaching from the stump.

THIS IS ABOUT YOUR SELF-PRESEVATION

I'LL GET MINE AND EVERYONE ELSE WILL HELP ME
KEEP IT MINE AT THEIR EXPENSE.

God knows who is a polluter and who is not and may or may not dispense consequences.

All I know is we need to get out of the bussiness
of the black ugly glob that seems to make billionaires of these corporations over night and now the new energy bill dispenses corporate welfare to them while they have ton of billions
in the bank to finance their own operations.

And before you start with the sob story of feast
or famine with oil companies the majors hedge
their bets all the time and survive and also they
waste billions of dollars in their operations it
is not as if they are lean mean corporations.

And again before you start with the sob story
of feast or famine..they choose to get into the
dirty bussiness of bringing this black glob in the
first place and dictated at the countrys detrement
energy policy for decades. We could be well on the way and up and running on renewables like other countries 10 years ago ..now we are behind
because of the Ken Lays of the world and secrect
Energy meetings with Cheney that spelled out the
policy in secret without the American populace
getting a word in edge wise...I will never feel
sorry for the energy companies...like I said
and spiritually speaking God knows if they
pollute and in His sovereignity he will decide
or not decide to have consequences.

National Geograhphic had a great story on oil
and really showed us lacking imagination like
other countries.

Come on KenH you just want to buy a an extra
air conditioner for your swank dog house. ;)

We need to start developing reliable B100 vehicles at a low price and put the money into the pockets of US farmers instead of pouring our dollars overseas.

This will solve a good chunk of the US problems politically, environmentally, militarily, and economically.

You obviously know little to nothing about the company I work for.

By the way, your photo must have been taken during an upset since the flares don't look that way 99+% of the time at any refinery.

You can buy the truth or continue to believe falsehoods, Joseph. That's up to you.

Companies make net $.03-.04/gallon. What do you want them to do? Give it away?

Whenever you start refusing to take a salary for your work at school so as not to make money off of the suffering taxpayers in your school district, let me know.

So now you are blaming oil companies for the effects of hurricanes on refineries. You are being ridiculous, Joseph.

I'm glad you teach school children band and not economics.

When people write "We must . . . " they mean "Other people must . . . ." You do what you want and I will shop at Walmart and be happy to buy $3 gas.

I'm sorry, but nowhere did I say you must do anything. You go ahead and buy your $3 gas while I go a little further down the road and pay $2.46. And make sure you do so with a happy, cheerful heart. I know I will...but a lot less often until they get to a price that is reasonable and stop the excuse making for their exploitation of human suffering. BTW, Ken, if the refineries were in as bad of shape as you say, shouldn't our prices still be over $3 a gallon after only 2 weeks? It is interesting how the sharp dive in prices seems to have coincided with the bottom line being that consumers were buying less gas in the last 3 weeks or so. You see...although I am not an economist, I do know enough to know that the free market does work.

You really need to pay closer attention to the news, Joseph. About 12% of U.S. refining capacity was shut down by Hurricane Katrina. Since then several refineries have restarted and now only about 5% of U.S. refining capacity is still shut down.

You really need to study and understand the oil industry all the way from the drill bit to the gasoline pump before you start bearing false witness against an industry working hard to keep gasoline in your gasoline tank and natural gas to heat homes and heating oil to heat homes and diesel to run farm equipment.

I will not back down from the oil industry haters/bashers. No sir! I never have and I never will. My dad worked for over thirty years in the oil industry and I'm only three years from thirty years in the oil industry myself plus working three summers in the hot summer sun in an oil field/gas plant while I was going to college. God used the oil industry to put diapers on me when I was a baby and He has used it ever since to put food on my plate, clothes on my back, and a roof over my head.

So blow your Katrina-like barrage of falsehoods about the oil industry until you get your fill and then some. I'll not be budged an inch. My hair won't even get mussed up.

KenH you are blinded because you are so entrenched
and on the big sows tit(agriculture term).

We need to get away from the black glob that
has held our nation hostage and pumped money
into the real vipers hands (Saudis). Big oil
has controlled and manipulated our energy policy
for to line and it seems to have taken care of
them quite well..all I am saying is we need
some honest brokers and not the fox in the hen
house.
