"There's a growing outcry that one element of the newly chosen Flight 93 National Memorial represents Islam and is a slap in the face to the passengers and crew members who died on the hijacked plane four years ago."

Says the Rev. Ron McRae, Somerset County "Anabaptist" evangelist -- "It's a memorial to the terrorists. It's not a memorial to the innocent Americans who died there."

The winning design, called the "Crescent of Embrace" calls for two rows of red maple trees to be planted around a bowl-shaped piece of land adjacent to the crash site.

    Hi Rob.

That memorial was nixed, it won't happen.

Also, the IFC in NYC met the same fate. There are still proud Americans around.

Upon viewing the artists' renderings, it's clear that the overall shape of the memorial has nothing to do with Islam. In fact, the Muslim symbol is a "lunar" crescent with the opening to one side. This design is a bowl-shaped crescent with the opening on the bottom.

The similarity is highly subjective. Overall, it looks like a fine design to me. But as noted above, the design has since been nixed. But I think the evangelist in the story is looking for things that don't exist.
