Interesting story. A number of years ago a friend and I were doing sketch-board evangelism on the streets of Harrison, NJ. This is exactly what we were DOING. We were in a place of public assembly and were well within our 1st Amendment rights. That did not stop a Harrison police officer from threatening us with arrest if we did not cease and desist. This also happened to an Open Air Campaigners missionary in Baltimore. The missionary was a member of my church and was harassed by Baltimore police officers at the Inner Harbor area. This type of intimidation is very common.

And we, Ref, have the First Amendment.

Interesting, it's been 24 hours and still no comment on this story fr5om any of our British members. Usually, they've been quick to point out the misconceptions we Yanks have about the land of fish and chips.

It simply hasn't really made the news here: hadn't popped up on any of my news feeds which are usually pretty hot on topical Christian news stories. The CLC and Christian Concern have a bit of a reputation in Christian circles over here of supporting those perhaps more on the fringe of Christianity, and this preacher's church seems to be of that stable: » Our History

Here, the police have a duty to keep the peace and prevent civil disturbances such as riots and running battles between opposing factions; therefore, if they think that a preacher eg: who goes for the jugular on Islam in his street ministry in a predominantly Muslim area, they may arrest him if they reasonably believe there will be such a fight or if they believe he is in danger; they may also for the same reason arrest bystanders who are heckling him. That said, it does seem from the article that even the Met think they were overly heavy-handed here and questions have been asked in Parliament which have received a favourable answer: Government defends right of street preachers following London arrest - Premier

Sounds like the UK isn’t nearly as progressive as the US. In the US, diversity is their strength!:Wink

You would prefer anarchy? We saw what happened at Charlottesville and prefer our way....;-) But we do have diversity as well: the police for example allow English Defence League members to march through the centres of cities with significant Muslim populations chanting "Mohammed was a pedo"

Allowing for freedom of speech is not near anarchy. Restricting speech is fascism

When your police and mayor set up such a march, then cancel it last minute and herd the marchers through the gauntlet in a wrong part of town, you will have your own C’ville.
The comment was evidently non-obvious sarcasm, as diversity of the sort being described is strengthening neither nation. "Diversity is our strength!" is yet another pernicious lie of the progressive left.
