On Sunday evening, Patty and I were at the Falls Baptist Church at a fellowship time in the parking lot of the Pick ’N Save grocery store. Every year we meet there to watch the local fireworks show, have a hotdog or hamburger and snacks, and fellowship with our friends. We left a little early to avoid the traffic jam that always happens at the end of the fireworks show. After we got home, we heard many sirens, and wondered what was happening.

A car driven by a young lady had careened into our group at 30-40 miles per hour, hitting two of our precious young people. Ben and Emily Grace Reimers were both graduates Baptist College of Ministry (BCM) where I teach, and Ben was on staff, and in our seminary preparing further for the ministry. Emily Grace was on staff at Falls Baptist Church as a pre-school teacher, and both were very involved in our music school. The young lady simply lost control of the car, and there were apparently no drugs or alcohol involved.

In God’s providence, we had men in the crowd from our church who are EMTs, and nearby was an ICU doctor. The police were also very near, since the Menomonee Falls parade had ended not long before the fireworks. Ben went to Heaven in the back of the ambulance, but the EMTs were able to stabilize Emily Grace. She had a broken pelvis, broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a broken back, but the most serious problem was the loss of blood. However, when Pastor Van Gelderen was finally able to get in to see her, she simply asked for prayer to be able to fulfill her dream, which is to be a missionary to reach an unreached people group in India!

The two young people were from North Carolina, and have been here about eight years. Their father is a retired Air Force colonel, and both parents are godly, good Christians. Their third child, Josiah, has just graduated from our college, and plans to serve Christ fulltime. The parents arrived as soon as they could, and their sentiment was that they wanted to lead the young lady driver to Christ!

I am deeply privileged to have taught the Word of God to all three of these young people at BCM. Please pray for the family, for Emily Grace who just had another surgery, this one on her back, and for the young driver to find Christ.
