    No he is dead...
    If he was lost, he is in Hell.
    If he was saved, he is in Heaven.

    Also, SFIC is still confusing "hope" in the things of this world (ending misery, etc) with "the hope of the Gospel" (eternal). The latter is what Christ offers, and we are to be "grounded", "settled" and "rooted" in; and defines "continuing in Him".
    And we are not "rooted" or "grounded" or have any "hope" if salvation is based on our works!
    A person who gives up in life may give a very bad testimony, but you cannot say they rejected the faith, because again, the "faith" is not about earthly things.

    standing, again you are preaching a catholic doctrine of last rites. You mean to tell me that if the rapture would come this instant you can say you would go to Heaven absolutely sinless. You must be wired tight sitting there every moment confessing evil thoughts and stuff you see ect. so you can go up if your heart stops. Man, what a thought! Unless, to you there are small sins and big sins?

    you deny that we will only be presented blameless and holy if we continue in Him? Then you are denying His Holy Word!

    What is your interpretation of Colossians 1:22,23?

    What is your interpretation of being grounded and settled? or holding to the hope of the gospel? What is your interpretation of 'If ye continue?'

    standing, I only knew one Christian fellow in my life that lived above sin. He had an apartment above the Maryland Line Inn...........until now!

    Nuff said on this subject. I will let you go and preach your salvation by works.

    I see you have no answer for what is written in the Gospel other than to accuse it of being salvation by works

    I think that rooted and grounded means to be having a deep understanding of the love of God so that you wont be led astray.

    Ephesians 3:
    16: That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
    17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
    18: May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
    19: And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

    Claudia,

    People can understand things without being involved in them. No, it is more than understanding His love. It is being found in Him.

    Well see I think that if we really understand the love of God we will trust Him. It was the lack of trust that made it easy for Satan to tempt Eve in the Garden of Eden ..."did God really say not to eat of that tree?"

    If we really understand the love of God we wont want sin. Like you keep saying about people who commit suicide... they lose hold of God in time of trial... they forget or dont understand His love...

    It probably means both things though, both what I am saying and what you are saying too...

    1:23 If ye continue in the faith (or, "since you will persevere in the faith"): the Colossians' future entrance into God's heavenly presence depends on whether they remain in the Christian faith. The words "since you will persevere" indicates that they will remain loyal to Christ. Perseverance in the Christian's faith is a test of the reality of one's trust in Christ. This verse implies that true believers will persevere. The King James Study Bible (Nelson)

    "Perseverance in the Christian's faith is a test of the reality of one's trust in Christ."

    yeah see? so its what you do if you really trust God and its knowing and believeing His love that makes you trust Him... you will persevere in loyalty.

    Thats what I keep saying ... the loyalty thing, thats really what its all about

    you are either loyal or rebellious.

    It appears that some are offended at the Word. Is that loyalty?

    I'm just curious...

    I wonder what Pastor's do when they are going through a verse by verse expository on the Book of Collosians and they get to verse 22 and 23 of the first Chapter?

    What do they tell the inquisitive parishoner who wants to know what 'If we continue grounded and settled in the faith' means?

    Colossians 1:21-23 .

    21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

    1. we have been reconciled to God by the sacrifice of Christ
    2. we are now holy and blameless
    3. we are to continue in the faith. Faith in what? Faith in the HOPE of the gospel.
    What is the gospel? It is the good news that our sin debt has been paid for
    by Jesus. What is the hope? It is eternal life. This is the FAITH we are to
    continue in. If we don't continue believing in the atoning sacrifice of Christ,
    then there is no HOPE.

    Failing in the trials of life is NOT the faith this passage is talking about.

    No man, after putting his hands to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom (Jesus)

    1 Thessalonians 3:3 That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. (Paul)

    So, Jesus appointed us to afflictions so we would commit suicide? or knowing we would commit suicide? I don't think so.

    Sorry, Amy. The Word says we are reconciled 'IF' we continue, not i'if we throw in the towel and kill ourselves.'

    One is not grounded in the hope of the Gospel (Jesus Christ is the eternal Hope of the Believer) if one commits suicide.

    Poor old Peter, the blighter, and him an apostle, chosen by the Lord, separated and annointed, and what does he do? Why, he denided even knowing who Jesus was. He did it three times and right at the Lord's execution...........Shame, shame.......Now, siince he turn off in such a manner, I guess he lost his redemptive claims in Christ............I guess that's wot the old song really meant......Ye must be born again, and again, and again,,and hang on, baby, cause you just might fall and need it again..............

    Lord help us,

    Cheers,

    Jim

    John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

    Apparently, if they did not continue in His Word, they were not His disciples.
