I joined back in april and notice that the ads were not that heavy then went off and did other things. Now since I have posted some more it seems to me like the advertisements are many and heavy and I know, sign in and you won't be bombarded so bad. Right I know that my poll has to do with guests, visitors, and those who might want to join.

? why does this BB need donations if it is so heavily covered in advertising??

It takes money to host a site with a large band width.

Firefox with Ad blocker as a plug in is your friend.

When I first came to BB there were no ads, as a matter of fact, I don't think there were ads until BB was sold last year. We existed on donations, now it is an income, nothing more.
And I have visited boards before with a lot of ads, they are a turn off, I usually never go back to them.

I think back in the origin days, the guy that owned it supported it financially.

    Times are changing.

Another board I'm on is going paid. I know it's not really because of the money but it's certainly costly to keep a BB going. IF people donate, then there is no need for ads but most people don't donate. We're talking hundreds of dollars a year just for the server/host. Then there's software updates and even the time of the administrator. I'm sure there are very few who have donated.

I'm fine with the ads. I won't donate, and I will leave if I am required to pay. BB just isn't that important.
