Treatment is predictably expensive at $1000, & testing is no where near as thorough as it has been with the Bad Trump recommendation of hydroxychloroquine combo, which costs about $30 for a full slate of treatment. Not to mention the leftists in my state prosecuting people for simply administering vitamin C. Do you think my medical dr. would or even could have told me to try a simple herb to break up kidney stones? Not a chance. Their job is to funnel you through the system.

Big Pharma develops a new medication, they want big bucks for it.
The old drugs might work perfectly fine, but doctors are discouraged from using them.
Out with the old and in with the new shiny thing.
Remdesivir is a designer drug, it was theoretically postulated that the design would work by interfering with viral replication, supplying a fake rna molecule which allows the virus to use a fake adenosine incorporated into it's RNA, then the drug was created but targeted originally to Ebola Virus. What is good about it, corona mutations do not affect the uptake of the fake adenosine, so when the virus mutates, remdesivir will continue to gum up the viral replication machinery.

Chloroquine works differently. I could imagine taking both and an antibiotic..

The recommended dose is a five day regiment of HC, Azithromycin, & 220mg of zinc sulphate. Should be taken early on, not last ditch.

Here's hoping President Trump doesn't mention it. A media campaign to discredit it would begin immediately.

There are actually three studies just releasing data on Remdesevir with mixed findings. It is encouraging to say that one of our treatment options has crossed the threshhold of showing positive effect on what appears to be well designed randomized control trial. However that paper has yet to be published or peer reviewed. Remdesivir has consistently been the most promising drug so far in severe cases. It is reasonable to list it as a treatment for covid19 and the new standard of care as has occurred in the FDA.

However with that said, the results are still underwhelming as the positive effect is small and it would be wrong to declare it a “cure”. It shortened average recovery time from 15 to 11 days in those that recovered and reduced mortality rate from 11% to 8%. Definitely encouraging but much less effective than initially hoped.

The NIH trial under way that showed positive results but is still in prepublishing phase.

Lancet published China RCT finding improved recovery time that was not statistically significant.

Gilead study looking at dosing and not an RCT, so not looking at effect.
