Preachers in a Rut

The use of several regular, appropriately qualified, preachers could well be the solution to this, it would provide variety of style, freshness in poit of view, and less dependance by the congregation on the preacher (usually the pastor) It would also help prevent the "It's MY pulpit" syndrome of some.
Most mega-churches follow this pattern to some effect. The only thing I see as a possible problem (other than the pride issue for some pastors) is finding a man or few that share a common viewpoint as to scripture and its interpretation.

Personally, I find it refreshing to have a different speaker/preacher on occasion. And not just the poor soul the pastor approaches ten minutes before the service and asks, "So, you gonna preach today/tonight? (bean there, done that)" But, rather, a sermon that is prepared and studied through.

Sorry for the double post, but back onto the OP topic.

The bast advice I have heard for a rut or a slump, is to get back to the basics.

Kent Philpott, in his book For Pastors of Small Churches, speaks to the times when preaching falls flat, or what he calls a slump (like in baseball). he said at those times, he goes back to the basics. A favorite psalm or parable, topics/subjects he has covered before, even repreaching sermons from a while back. but, he said, don't stop... you have to preach through to the other side.

Sounds like the right prescription.

I often analogize this to a fuel tanker, he can have thousands of gallons in the big tank on the back but even he needs to pull in and put some fuel in the little tank or he'll run out.

I LIKE THAT!!

As PASTORSBC said, go exercise! I jog and find this not only physically refreshing but spiritually refreshing because I listen to preaching on my IPod (most downloads from Sermonaudio.com). I find that while I seem to randomly download sermons not based on any set agenda or topic that it seems the Lord times it just right for me to need that particular sermon to either encourage/refresh me or to teach me. I'm amazed at how a particular audio sermon that was downloaded 3 weeks before is right in line with either my personal devotions or a subject I'm preparing to preach on. I think that preachers need to be ready/available/open to being preached at as well as ready to preach. Praise the Lord for truly He is good!!
