What was Bush supposed to do after the tragedy? Exclaim at the top of his voice, "Get off your lazy butts and roll those tanks and busses through miles of 6 ft. deep water to rescue and save people!" I guess he could have stomped on States Rights and taken Dictatorial Control of the whole State before the Hurricane hit, but then we'd have a bunch of idiots at the ACLU and other people crying foul.

I FEEL THAT THE DESTRUCTION OF KATRINA IS BEING USED TO CUT THE PRESIDENT POLITICALLY AND THOSE JUDGING HIS ACTIONS SHOULD HAVE TO CARRY HIS RESPONSIBILITES FOR A WHILE.

Someone may have mentioned it earlier but the Coast Guard was pulling people off roof tops on Tuesday after the walls failed late Monday. Last time I heard the Coast Guard was part of the US Government. Also the initial responsibility in calling out the National Guard in a domestic issue lies with the Governors.

Francer you are correct: THE DESTRUCTION OF KATRINA IS BEING USED TO CUT THE PRESIDENT POLITICALLY AND THOSE JUDGING HIS ACTIONS SHOULD HAVE TO CARRY HIS RESPONSIBILITES FOR A WHILE.

He was the one who wanted the job. What I'm judging is his INACTION.

There is no excuse for the incompetence of FEMA and the lack of military presence to feed, water, shelter, and to execute law and order during a national disaster.

The buck stops with him. He's the man in charge.

I would say the same thing no matter who was POTUS under the same circumstances. This isn't about political parties, it is about the body politick...what's left of it.

JUst to keep the positive note:

Canada has upped its contribution to 4 ships, supplies and equipment, plus 1000 men to assist, 3 helicopters, and one jetliner to transport people wherever they have to go.

To this we can add that a number of schools have offered free room and board in local homes and continued education. Every municipality has made broadcasts for funds to be deposited at any Canadian bank where trust funds have been set up.

I am quite proud to be Canadian, and pleased that we recognize true needs without political gain. Remember, this is helping a country which cost our farmers billions of dollars because of two mad cows. We burned our hate, and display our love for our friends and neighbours.

Cheers, and God bless those poor folks suffering so much with so little.

    Jim

Here’s what the FEMA director said to Paula Zahn tonight on CNN:

Michael Brown, director of FEMA: People who were unable or chose not to evacuate are suddenly appearing. And so this catastrophic disaster continues to grow. I will tell you this, though, every person in that convention center, we just learned about that today and so I have directed that we have all the available resources to get to that convention center to make sure that they have the food and water, the medical care that they need.

Paula Zahn: Sir, you’re not telling me –

Brown: To care of those bodies that are there –

Zahn: you’re not telling me that you just learned that the folks at the convention center didn’t have food and water until today, are you? You had no idea that they were completely cut off?

Brown: Paula, the federal government did not even know about the convention center people until today.

Apparently, the media knew the New Orleans Convention Center was a shelter for hurricane victims before the Bush Administration did. Meanwhile, victims at the convention center are facing “horrible, horrible conditions” where people are lying sick and dead on the streets.

No one in the White House watches cable news? That's really something. It was broadcast from Fox News Channel, MSNBC, and CNN. For days.

There are still 30,000 people there right now without food and water with dead babies and dead bodies lying around, no power, human waste, extreme violence and a lot of anger. This, according to the NO police chief Geraldo just interviewed in front of the place.

    I'm amazed.

To be fair to the Bush administration and the Federal Government, it was the Governor of LA together with the NO officials that should have made sure they had the plans in place before the storm ever made landfall, that's not to excuse the slow response by the Federal Government now five days after the storm to help, but the Federal government and the Bush administration should not be at the top of the list of those responsible.

I don't understand why they won't let those who want to, leave the downton areas. They are keeping them locked in the city like prisoners!

Their practicing for what they have in store for the rest of us when their global elite masters decide to take over. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see them doing retina scans, taking DNA samples and issuing biometric ID's to American citizens like they did to the inhabitants of Fallujah.

    Exactly Ken.

Be careful though, you are going to be called a Bush basher/hater who is only out to acheive a political victory in the face of tragedy for talk like that.

Haven't you heard of the posse comitatus law?</font>[/QUOTE]People seem to forget those kinds of details. Federal marital law could be declared but that would upset the local and state governments. The alledged "knuckleheads" in the federal government - acting on behalf of the tax payers - are providing plenty of help without using federal troops for law enforcement duties. The National Guard, under the Governor's authority - is handling that effectively in support of civilian law enforcement. Federal military resources are also hard at work in other ways that don't conflict with the law. A review of NOPD's performance might be appropriate at some future point. They were stretched very thin but some reports raise serious concerns.

Many people in the area are already helping the persons temporarily displaced here. Several major employers are giving their employees paid time off to participate. Not everyone can help in the same way. There are many private agencies that need monetary support. Not all help should come from the government and especially the federal government. In the end, it's fellow citizens that will provide the help either through donations or taxes.

From the morning press conference - loads of rhetoric.

As he closed a question arose - "Mr President, why did it take so long...?"

    The response - a wave.

I saw that, too. Rhetoric doesn't feed an empty belly or quench a parched thirst. Some of those babies are dying in their mother's arms.
