And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the Law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. For if the inheritance be of the Law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Why should we serve the Law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator (Galatians 3:17-19). This passage says, 430 years after the covenant of promise by faith between God and Abraham, the Mosaic Law was added because of the transgressions of the people. God gave the Mosaic Law (which includes the Ten Commandments) through the prophet Moses as a moral law to live by. Those under the authority of the Mosaic Law are condemned by the curse of the Law if they do not continue to do all things written in the book of the Law (Galatians 3:10).

Jesus Christ was born into the world to save us from our sins. He restored us to a covenant of faith so our sins are forgiven by the grace of God for our faith in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ tasted death once for all as a final sacrifice for sins to fulfill the Mosaic Law and redeem us from the curse of the Law. Just as the Mosaic Law was added because of transgressions (Galatians 3:19), prophecy shows in the latter years of the Roman Empire when transgressors had come to a full, a king would arise and wonderfully “destroy” the holy people through peaceful means. What this means and how it pertains to us today is explained. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy he shall also cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand (Daniel 8:23-25).

Because of the overspreading of abominations at the end of the Roman Empire (when transgressors were come to a full) this king would arise and “wonderfully destroy” the holy people in a “peaceful manner”. This peaceful manner was through a doctrine of authority and fear. Many members of the Roman Empire were conceived as holy children by receiving the Son of God from either parent having the Spirit (1 Corinthians 7:14). But even though they were born holy, they became corrupt by pursuing fleshly lusts. Prophecy shows this happened 62 “weeks” (62 x 7 = 434 years) after the coming of Messiah. This king of fierce countenance came because of the overspreading of abominations; 434 years after Jesus Christ came to fulfill the Law for us to receive the grace of God for our faith. This was similar to the Mosaic Law being added 430 years after God made the covenant of faith with Abraham. Prophecy from Daniel 7-12 and 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12 helps us to see when and understand why this happened.

    God bless
