Yes, there is a specific set of skills and factual information given to each public school teacher when hired. A curriculum, with it's scope and sequence, is thoroughly explained.

When they promote their own religious, social, and moral agendas in place of those standards, they should be either fired or given one opportunity to change.

Those who make displays like this in class - and their right wing counterparts who do the same - aren't likely to change.

Well I'm thankful for one thing... I'm not in school anymore!... Brother Glen:)

My wife a retired public high school teacher could not talk about God, yet one of the other female teachers she knew could talk openly about homosexuality and get away with it.

Usually, this is up to the local school board which is usually locally elected. I can't read the first poster. The other is a multi-colored flag. If a teacher is in San Francisco, I would be surprise if the teacher was not required to display the flag by the school district. If your local school district does something you don't like, you need to gather your neighbors and vote in a new school board.

I enjoy the rather liberal policies of Texas regarding the right to homeschool. I can see how people in other states would be upset. I believe that mandatory education through high school is a horrible policy.

If a teacher were told to take it down, they would take it down. Most teachers are too busy teaching to standardized tests to go off on extended tangents.

Most teachers teach social and moral agendas. They have to. It's part of their job description. A teacher can't teach if they don't teach social and moral agendas. Usually, they try to keep religion out of it. Only those who are part of the "majority religion" might get away with teaching a religious agenda.

If I were a teacher is school and I talked about how God does not exhaustively know the future, would any of you be ok with it??

I didn't think so. Teacher's can't talk about God because there are many different beliefs about God. A teacher talking about homosexuality is also treading on dangerous ground. If the majority of the community is ok with what they say, they usually will get away with it. If not, they will usually be let go at the end of the year.

BUT many of those who realize that h0mose/uals are inmoral - normally will NOT speak up.
It is important, especially for those who have children in public schools to attend school board meeting
and make their concerns know. In addition they should consider running for the school board!

I agree that this should change. I wish more people were involved in local school politics and I wish that people would push for local school elections to be mandated to be held during the normal election date of the Tuesday in November.

Some people don't realize how powerful a school board is until their house/business gets bulldozed for an administration building.

So don't misunderstand. I don't necessarily support what is happening, but I'm trying to get people to write their local/state politicians, run for office, or support better candidates for office. Some of you are honored veterans who can run for local office if the local school district is bad. Laws can be changed at a state level.

What I oppose is looking at this from the viewpoint of a national issue because I don't see how anything good can come from it.
