Your right Pastor Larry, it is a bit hypocritical.

In the local church here, we have been dealing with brothers who have been disruptive to say the least.
There key arguments (by admission) come from MacArthur's teachings.

I've never met John MacArthur; I've never heard a sermon from him; I've never visited his church.

I do have 4 or 5 of his books.
Some of them are very good, others well...

BTW, I didn't accuse anyone of being a troll, just that it makes one think of the possibility.
Perhaps if you supported your position.

I think Dr. Bob once mentioned that McArthur and Warren's churches aren't too far from each other and that could be part of the reason for the animosity between them.

I mapped Grace Community and Saddleback and they are 67 miles apart.

The difference between MacArthur and Warren have nothing to do with difference. Warren has patterned his ministry after a philosophy that MacArthur has biblical issues with.

The underlying five purposes of PDC are very good, and not original in the least. Churches have been doing those for years. What Warren did was put a particular slant on them that has not always been in line with Scripture. This has been hashed out at length in other places, but includes Warren's man centeredness, his improper use of Scripture, his alliances and cooperation with false teachers, and some of his philosophies. They have been well documented. Much of what Warren says in PDC is very good. A little of what he says in PDL is very good. It is the rest that is problemmatic.

But MacArthur is certainly not out of bounds to speak out. He is doing what he believes the Bible commands him to do.

MacArthur seems to have "issues" with any ministry that differs from his.

Can anyone name a ministry that is different than MacArthur's about which he has had positive things to say?

I have about 50 of his books and have never seen him say a positive thing about anyone who differs from his own perspective.

    FYI

Troll, the Scandinavian term for elf. Sometimes they are described as being hairy and ugly.

    or...

A troll is a person who posts inflammatory messages on the internet, such as on discussion forums, to disrupt the discussion or to upset its participants.

My guess is that Repent62 isn't hairy or ugly.

    Pastor Larry sez:
"THEY" being errors in PDL. There is a good site (If you care to check it out) called Purpose Verses. It documents, in a very good way, the errors.

MacArthur is doing what the Bible commands him to do when someone presents error as truth.

I agree with John MacArthur, and it is good to see he is standing against the error of Rick Warren's philosophy. As believers we are to expose and warn others of error.

Thank you J Mac for taking this stand!

One accusation against Rick Warren is that he presents another Gospel.

    If you go to:
    http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/

    You can click on"
"What Does It Mean To Follow Christ?"

This is a video of Rick Warren going through the simple plan of salvation.

He does present the Gospel as we think of it.

Yes, he doesn't do everything the way we think he should. Yes, he does take some verses out of context. But, he is our brother in Christ.

OK, let's draw the line in the sand.

    Now.

My church did the 40 Days of Purpose. And I have read the book.

It's devotional in nature and I liked it.

I know, I know....Rick Warren and his book is not the be-all, end-all of Christian literature, I know that.

    But I enjoyed reading it.

I just went to the site that was mentioned in dale's post called "Purpose Verses" and if that was not the most NIT-PICKING article that I have EVER read, then I don't know what is.

    UNBELIEVABLE. Read it for yourself.

I want the very next person who has issue with Rick Warren to S-P-E-L-L O-U-T EXACTLY the concepts that he teaches that you don't agree with.

    PLEASE...for pity's sake....just tell us!!

You might even change my mind about Rick Warren. And I am not easily swayed. But you just might do it!!

IF you can cite portions of the book that are false teachings and cite portions of the Bible that prove that Rick is a false teacher, then do it.

Don't tell about anymore websites and stop defaming him and his book without showing us what you all are talking about!!

You all may be right, but, gosh!!!!! We'll never know, will we?

Be specific....show those of us who like Rick Warren and PDL just exactly where in the book that he shows that he is a liar.

Don't recite anyone else. Show us yourselves.

I have read the book and the I have just read the critical website.

I'll show all of you the "straining at a gnat" in the website, if you will show me, first, the false teachings in the book.

    Peace-
    Scarlett O.

Amen, Sister Scarlet O. -- You are RIGHT ON! [IMG]

I'm beginning to feel it is a waste of God's time
in my life for me to argue against
professionals (i'm just an amature for Jesus).

    Looking over this site
    http://www.fundamentalbiblechurch.org/Foundation/fbcAnalysis.htm

    I quit when i read:

//All scriptural references and quotes are based
on the King James Version (AV1611) only. //

I figured it probably wasn't true. It was not a correct
statement. Instead, the unauthorized KJV of 1769 is used :(

    The anti-warren site quotes:

//"For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD,
whose name is jealous, is a jealous God" (KJV)//

But the KJV1611 Edition, the AV = Authorized Version, says:

    Exo 34:14 (KJV1611 Edition):
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord,
whose name is Ielous, is a Ielous God:

This site is NOT worth of further study :(

Caveat: my church has never had the 40-day
program nor spent church money buying
    Rick Warren materials.

I get real tired of reading all of the "false doctrine" and "false teaching" allegations without stating what they are. If you are going to call Rick Warren a "false teacher" and PDL as "false doctrine", put your money where your mouth is and state EXACTLY what is false! </font>[/QUOTE] :( Read the book and you will find out what they are. I read the book quite a while back and at this point do not feel like going back and re-reading it because to be quite honest I never expected to be drilled on the issue. I am currently reading something else far more edifiying to my spiritual well-being at this time. God is speaking to me on issues in my life and that is what I'm concentrating on right now. I just took a break and made a comment on a topic on the post which was made merely as I clearly stated, this is my personal opinion. I did not state it in order to be slammed by someone. Besides, we are all admonished by the Bible to test the spirits to see if they are true. To that end, anything we read or hear, by whoever wrote it or said it, should be read with proper discernment in order to determine what is true and what is false doctrine. My personal take was that there were some things that I didn't feel were right - no more no less. What they are at present I honestly can't recall since I've read much since then, just that I do recall there were some things that seemed questionable at the time.

Sorry. Some day maybe I will review the book again and see what those issues were, but at present I have other issues that take priority in my life.

I think it's a lot like any other book there's good stuff in the purpose driven life book and there is bad stuff in it too but I think that one can eat the meat and spit out the bone.

I am sure that one should not go so far as to say the guy is a false prophet.

I also believe that the man has probably done more good than harm.

But I also think Dr. Holvind is a man of God so take what I have to say any way you wish.

Deacon I think your right on. [IMG]

You read wrong. Isn't it amazing how people believe such juicy morsels of gossip. Is that what being a Baptist is all about? I hope not.

If someone took and tallied the people who attended church on any given Sunday in most towns it would not exceed 10% of the population of the city.

When people start gossiping instead of working it tells me a lot about their perspective.

Just one year ago the church I attend finished a new building. Eight years ago the church was 75 and fighting. Today they baptize over 100 each year. People are working whereas in the past they were fighting. But shortly before they moved into the buildiung it was amazing what we heard form others about the pastor and new building. We couldn't help but laugh to think some others were so stupid and actually believed what they heard. Shows some are very gullible.
