Why in the world would you think jealousy would enter into this? </font>
A possibility?
When a church grows some may be jealous of it.
It was even mentioned in the link.

When a strong Christian reads PDL, there is not doubt that they will find it weak and less than spiritually nurishing. But, when one who is weak in the faith or with out Christ reads the book, it is a stimulus to spiritual growth. I have heard too many stories from reliable sources (i.e. people I trust) about the use of the book to cause people to realize their need for Christ and receiving Him as saviour. Also, I have seen weak in the faith Christians started down the road to moving to the meat of the Word because the book helped them jump start their stagnent growth process. In all, it is a good book and worthy of the use that it is getting. If you don't like it, don't use it. But don't throw rocks at those who do like it.

I have heard stories as well. I have had friends that have been inspired by the book. And I don't deny that God can and has used the book. But that doesn't mean we just accept it as a proper means of evangelism or spiritual growth. God has used the Crusades as a means for spiritual growth and we don't go around doing that just because it works do we?

    Very very very true!

Our church went through 40 days last year. I HATED this book. I found it to be light and fluffy, boring, wrong in some areas, it hit some pet peeves of mine, etc.. I went because we were new at our church and we needed to meet some people.

my husband on the other hand.. well, lets just say that a lot was going on at the time that we read this book, but God used it for good for sure. This book totally sparked my husbands interest in reading the bible and getting to know God. He has grown so much in the last year. It should be said that now he doesnt think too highly of PDL, but it was definately a spark that got his flame going.

So you claim: "This book totally sparked my husbands interest in reading the bible", but later that your husband now "doesnt think too highly of PDL". If God used it to reach your husband, how on earth can he not think too highly of it now? It sounds like intellect is getting in the way of letting God use who and what He wishes to reach both the lost and wayward Christian.

    Is there such a thing?
open theism...or free will? It would help if you didn't yank this one statement out of the context intended. The only problem I have with this is RW is a reformer, and this statement is misleading on his part. Hardly heresy, though.
Once you are justified, the "character" being referred to is sanctification. You don't think this is the main staple of a justified person?

Wow, talk about twisting words of others. It sounds like your personal opinion is what is getting in the way. You don't seem to recognize the difference between a christian on milk and one on meat. Why is that?

A Christian on meat is making disciples in obedience to the command Jesus gave in Mt. 28:19, 20. The rest are on milk.

The difference in mild and meat is not the nutritional value, but it's in who gets it. Babies are given milk. Adults chew their meat up for themselves. Example: is John 3:16 milk or meat?

It would help to read my post with the intent I wrote it...not personal opinion.

I've seen Warren on Larry King several times and have YET to hear him present the gospel. He dodges it every time.

    That is a huge problem.

Is larry King the proper forum? He preaches the Gospel. He is very solid in his preaching and doctrine.

The strong Christian is discipling people. He is already leading. The majority of people leading and following in the churches are not discipling anyone. So of course a book like that can do well in the bookstores.

He is very solid in his preaching and doctrine. </font>
Let me clarify what I was trying to say: I have seen Larry King ask Warren several times on several occassions if Jews, Atheists, etc., can go to heaven (or if they have a "purpose" as Warren claims for everyone). Clearly, this is an opportunity for Warren to give the exclusive message of the cross. Each time, without exception, he fails to do so. In fact, you wonder if he believes these people even need Christ after hearing Warren answer.

That is what I was talking about. I can provide transcripts if you'd like to read them.
