a person goes to church and wants to be saved they hear the preaching and go home disturbed they pray to be saved, but they want to wait until next week to go forward for an altar call to satisfy their feelings about being saved and to go through the plan of salvation like most people have done at church. after doing this they now feel confident that they are saved. reading this scenario do you believe this person now has saving faith?

Given that this was posted in the Baptist section of the BB, and we are all using the same definitions of things, I would say yes.

Not speaking for myself, but some on here have said they don't believe in altar calls.

    Now what?

Altar calls are nothing more than psychological manipulation employed by unaware preachers.

    Paul the Apostle condemned them.

That person was saved the second they knew their need and prayed to be saved whether they went forward in a church or backward in a brothel.

    Yes

The going foward and making a public announcment is simply them doing what they have seen others do. This person needs to be discipled so that they understand that they were saved when they believed in Christ Jesus.

As with all other New Believers we really don't know if they are saved or not, but can only guess based upon their works and the changes in their life.

Yes. I got saved sitting in front of my computer holding my wife's hand at about 1 am one Monday night because I couldn't wait till Sunday. Buying into the "praying a certain prayer" I even pulled up John Hagee's online video of the prayer and prayed it. I realize now it wasn't necessary, but the past is past. And I know for a fact I am saved.
