    My favorites include "The Great Escape" and "A Bridge Too Far". Some of my other favorites include:
    Back to Bataan (1945) - WWII
    Sergeant York (1941) - WWI
    The Gallant Hours (1960) - WWII
    Battle Hymn (1957) - Korean War

    As a school kid in the 50s, they used to march us to the gym and show WWII propaganda films. Lots of Nazis killing Jews etc. I think these are best because they expose the evils of war. I don't understand how anyone could be entertained by war movies.

    (1993) When 13-year-old Kyle Vogel discovers the World War II footlocker belonging to his grandfather, Bud, everyone tells Kyle to put it back. Luckily, he ignores them. Although Bud has never talked about the war, he finds himself striking a deal with his grandson: Kyle can pick any three souvenirs, and Bud will tell him the stories behind each one.

    Gods and Generals was perhaps the longest movie of my life (the Titanic, while shorter, is a close contender). My wife loved it (my cousin was an extra....died several times). I'm not so much into Civil War history I guess.

    Maybe I would have liked it better if I watched it at home rather than the theater.

    Band of Brothers is a greta series definately one of my favorites. Prefered BoB over Pacific, though it also a great series.

    Blackhawk Down also great modern war film.
