Red and Blue America Agree That Now Is the Time to Violate the Constitution

Read the article in the OP. This is not an American issue. Every country has covid 19 and every country will be dealing with these issues.

And maybe you are unfamiliar with how civil debates work but they are a sharing of different ideas from different viewpoints so that all can be considered. It is a pillar of what makes great free societies like the United States. But it sounds like censorship of different ideas that are “dangerous” to your political positions is much more your type of society.

 

If assembly in large crowds causes thousands of people to die, is that person trying to exert power or performing their civic duty?

 

If you look around the world “lockdown” comes in many forms, none of which include large public gatherings. But most of them do involve shopping and even a majority of the economy still working.

Most current government plans have what we are currently experiencing as a “hard” lockdown to control the initial wave of infections from Covid19 that is meant to be short. But then the lockdown is relaxed in “pulses” if you may where large sections of the economy can get back to work but maintaining some social distancing measures where possible matched with aggressive testing and isolation of individual cases and contact tracing, old tried and true public health measures that work when case numbers are low.

You can then be vigilant with more localized hard lockdowns to control smaller outbreaks if your testing ability is adequate enough to indicate things are getting out of control.

Coronavirus: The Hammer and the Dance

Tomas Pueyo’s Hammer and the Dance outline this strategy well. You can see many south East Asian countries are already in this dance phase of the outbreak and most of their economies are back up and running for the most part, or they have never stopped because they kept case numbers low to begin with using good social distancing and hygiene practices from the start.

 

Umm How many other countries are dealing with this is not relevant to what Americans should do. We have a different form of government and in most cases different values. Someone else telling Americans what we should do is not going to happen.

As far as tour feigned censorship claim.....good luck with that.

 

All civil societies have laws and constitutions that can be adapted to fit the current needs of the people through the legislative branch of government. Almost all the countries we are talking about have civil liberties written into their laws in one form of another relating to speech protections, religious practice, rights to a trial before incarceration, rights to own weapons, etc.

All those countries including the United States have limits to all of those rights of situations where those individual civil liberties do not apply, usually because they infringe upon the rights and liberties of others or the safety of the society as a whole.

As pandemics become more common, all civil societies in the world will need to grapple with regular situations where our rights may come secondary to the safety and survival of the society in practice and even in the eyes of the law. As the article in the OP states, we need to be very cautious treading down this path because of how easily those liberties can be lost for good.

This is a very important topic for discussion. I respectfully ask you to stop derailing this topic with the irrelevant fact that I am not an American.

Scientific prognostications are only as valid as the absence of prayer. When the children of God, utilize the most powerful weapon available to them, fervent prayer, miraculous things happen.
