My mom and I used to watch that show. (Along with Sanford and Son and All in the Family)

    I have 2 thoughts.
    1) Hollywierd is out of original ideas
    2) they are gonna mess it up 6 ways from Sunday.

I watched it back when there were only three channels and no such thing as a remote.

RevM, I watched it in... black and white! (Well out tv was still black and white!)
I remember those days well. Mom and I moved every 6 months or so, from one condemned apartment to another. We understood the poverty of the show. I cried when James died, because I missed my own father. (Mine was not dead, mom left him during Viet nam because she did not want to become a war widow).
Many of our apartments looked like theirs did. I remember when they were afraid to eat a meal their neighbor had fixed because the knew she ate cat food to stretch her money.
