Dec. 15, 2005 - When Rick Warren held his first service at the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., 25 years ago, only 200 people showed up. Today more than 22,000 people attend Sunday services at the Southern Baptist megachurch, now part of a sprawling 120-acre campus. Though he’s consciously avoided the televangelism route, Warren has managed to reach millions more across the country and around the world through books like “The Purpose-Driven Life.” More than three years after the book was published by Zondervan, a Christian publishing company, it remains on the New York Times best-seller list. It has also been translated into 56 languages. Warren could easily live off the money he’s made from the book sales, and live well. But he and his wife decided instead to give away 90 percent of the proceeds. Warren's lifestyle has not expanded much since the book came out, but his goals have. Next year he’ll unroll a plan called PEACE to tackle some of what he calls the world’s biggest problems: poverty, disease, egocentric leadership, spiritual emptiness, and illiteracy.

I can only hang my head in sorrow at the great multitudes that have been deceived by his work. With such influence, he could use it for something that is biblically sound. I have no doubts but that he's a Christian, but we are warned that there will come a time when they will not endure sound doctrine.

I am sorry, I didn't post this here for another "Let's beat up Rick Warren" thread.....

I posted this here because I thought what he is doing, what the article is talking about, is a very good thing.

Did either of you bother to even read the article?

No matter what your opinion of his minstry, you have to see the good he is doing for mankind. He is really helping people with his charties, even if you don't agree with his minstry, you have to agree that he is helping people with his charties.

Read the article with an unbaised look...

Looks to me like Rick is doing exactly what our Lord commanded us to do and this is what I feel is important to Christ.
That's a lot to ask for from a Baptist...

Hey! It's about RW, who's a success in the WORLD, (can anything be more sacriligious? ), and claims to be a Christian.

Who needs to read his articles, or learn about his beliefs to condemn him; the above is all that is needed!

Seems this tactic was used once before--
And before you RW bashers get your panties in a wad, I'm NOT equating RW with Jesus; just the tactics of the opposition!!!

From a purely secular POV, as I see it, he is doing a good thing.

Not sure if you are misinterpreting me, or me you, but my first two comments were (is) purely sarcasm!

He is successful. I don't doubt that he's a Christian. However, he is misguiding millions. He's a false teacher.

I live in an area with many pagans. Some of them have huge charities, providing lots and lots of money, food, clothing, shelter, etc. Does that make them godly?

Is he doing good works? Yes. Is he doing well in the world? Undeniably. Is he doing much damage to the Church? I don't think there's a doubt about it.

But, since this is a thread about praising those who give much money to charity, in all fairness, don't we need to list all the secular, worldy, and ungodly as well? I mean, since this doesn't involve scriptural soundness or anything.

</font>[/QUOTE]Well, I think you did a good job with this post. Except, false teachers don't go to heaven. If he's a false teacher, he's going to hell.

So, you're saying that our salvation is determined by works?

That's a really serious charge. Care to back it up with some facts?

The best thing I could suggest would be to buy his book, read it, and compare it to Scripture. I don't have any way to link to it or to copy and paste.

But you could pick something from the book and type it in - even a paraphrase - along with your specific criticism.

I read the book (PDL and PDC) and found them to be spot on.

Rick has a purpose. To get as many people to take their eyes off of what is truly to be lifted up... The Lord Jesus.... and to lift self up
