I totally agree with this. We need to prepare spiritually, mentally, and physically for the hardships to come. It's kind of hard to eat "hope" or pay the bills with it.Martin Luther said:Christians need to prepare, our economy is disintegrating. This is no time to put our heads in the sand and HOPE things get better, they will not. We can use this as an opportunity to spread the gospel.
Jim, I have been doing exactly this all week. I've had the stomach flu and have been unable to do much besides sit at the computer. So, I've been researching depression era recipes and wartime recipes, and the holocoust. I am amazed at the way people survived on practically nothing, at least by modern standards, especially in England. British rations for a week are what we Americans would eat in a day. Amazing!Jim1999 said:For some of us, we have been all through this with the Fall of the market in 1929, when ordinary people threw themselves from high towers because they had no hope. Others pushed on, and then came war,,more disaster. We had 15 years of disaster in the world, We survived and prospered. Sure times are going to be tough. We might have to give up those extra motorcars, playtoys, cottages, 14 pair of shoes in the closet and 14 credit cards maxed out. Like the chap n the telly the other night. He spent 1,000 dollars for a little dog,,,,on his credit card.........and couldn't afford the ten dollar bill the veterinary wanted for the basic needles a pup should have.
Greed and self-contempt for life is catching up, and we must pay the fiddler.
When the times get tough, the tough get going. You will all have to learn about the British stiff upper lip we developed during the war years.
Cheers,
Jim
I don't put much stock into this Russian professor's opinions, but I do think it's important for us to be aware of what is going on around us, and to ponder it and act wisely. I think for too long we Americans have believed "it won't happen to us" because the US is a superpower.Squire Robertsson said:Folks, contrary to this Russian professor's opinion the sky is not falling to the point he predicts. We're in for some tough times but not as tough as he predicts.
Another of his problems is he seems to think of states of the United States as equalling the republics of the old Soviet Union at best or more likely the equal of the autonomous oblasts.
One of the boasts Californians make about our State is "if California were an independent country, we'd have the fifth largest economy in the world." I dare say New Hampshire out ranks alot of countries.
Squire Robertsson said:if you look at how he divvies up the States, you'd see he doesn't know the US psyche worth beans. In another place where this is being discussed, the question of what he was smoking was raised.
The splitting up of the US is one matter. :tear: To posit Texas being taken over by Mexico, New england by the EU, and California by the PRC is quite another.
