School Food Police

In Pa. I see some public schools are trying to limit what kind & how many outside snacks students may bring to school. The way I see it, IT'S NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS ! ! That's a matter for PARENTS OR GUARDIANS to decide!

When my kids were in elementary school, my wife, who worked in the school as a special-ed helper, sometimes sent them to school with steak sandwiches. A wannabee food cop school nurse scolded her for it, saying it made some of the poorer kids feel bad because their parents couldn't afford such luxuries. My wife told her she'd send them with whatever she chose for their lunches, & if some other parents didn't like it, let'em get a haircut & get a real job. (My wife's job was UNION, so they couldn't punish her for her opinions.)

She told me about it, & I agreed, so I bought a nice sirloin & also salmon, & she sent them to school all week with meals made from one or the other.

The wannabe food cop called me while my wife was at work & started her spiel When she stopped to suck in some air, I told her I'd hear no more; we'd send our kids to school with whatever WE chose for them to have for lunch, & if we heard any more about it or anything was said to our boys, they'd hear from my attorney next, without any preliminaries. And that was THAT. She wisely canned it!

(BTW, my boys' sandwiches & meals were large enough that they could share with a friend or two if they chose-& often did!)

To this day, we still believe that school lunches sent from home, either complete meals or add-ons to lunches purchased from the school, are strictly the business of the parents or guardians! My boys treat their own boys the same.

I recommend that any parent having a similar prob from their kids' public school do the same thing, to tell them to zip it up or they'll hear from an attorney.

Agreed, this is classic government overreach and we CANNOT give these people an inch!

How about this!
When I was in grammar school, one of my friends went to a soda machine -(which was NOT meant for use during school hours) and he bought himself a soda. Well, the teacher took it away and told him he had to buy milk.

Thoughts?

(the soda machine was meant only for after school activities - ie boy scouts, ect.)
