The cooling water system at an Electrical Power Station was designed for operation of four large pumps, each pumping more than 500,000 gallons of sea water per minute. But early in the plants operation, only one pump was operated, which aerated the water because the flow channel was not essentially full. This resulted in the production of foam, which bubbled out of a vent and covered nearly an acre of asphalt with about two feet thick foam. We called it "flat land beer." Once we put all four pumps into operation, the phenomena ceased.
