Senior NHS consultant neurologist: Britain's single-payer system killing up to 130,000 elderly patie

Ahhhhh... single-payer, government-run, healthcare. It's the ultimate dream of the modern left. As we've argued many times before, it's not because they have some deep-seated desire to offer "high quality care to everyone." It's because it will grant them expansive new powers in the areas they love most: taxation and social engineering. There is absolutely no political issue - from gun control, to welfare, to how far you walk or drive - that can't, in some way, be tied to the cost of health care.

Single-payer is the authoritarian statist's holy grail because it will allow the feds to weasel their dirty little fingers into every single corner of your life.

The problem, of course, is that single-payer care is also - by definition - rationed care. Usually, that ends up meaning that the older you are, the worse you'll fare under a single payer system. After all, the younger you are, the less expensive and extensive your needs will be. So, the elderly, particularly those without money or connections, suffer.

In March we heard that Great Britain's NHS was all but abandoning it's already-long 18-week wait time target. ...And guess who that decision hurts the most:

An effective abandonment of NHS waiting times targets will cause more "discomfort and pain" for elderly patients, it has been claimed.

The changes announced by health service chief Simon Stevens have prompted widespread anger, with politicians, charities and health bodies labelling them “appalling”.

Under the shake-up, patients face longer waits for non-emergency surgery such as cataract operations and hip replacements in a “trade off” for improved care elsewhere, such as cancer diagnosis and in A&E departments, said Mr Stevens.

This claim is unverifiable and what your glorious leader would call fake news. the number of elderly people in the UK is rising fast (I'm one of them!) so more of them are dying. It's along the same lines as the millions who are dying because of man-made climate change.
The British NHS certainly has its problems but so has every system of healthcare in the world. More treatments are being discovered which cost more money people are living longer and are therefore suffering from more chronic conditions which are expensive to treat. If the cost of treatment rises faster than GDP, which it is doing, then it takes a larger slice of people's income to pay for it, whichever system you use.

Actually, the free market holds down costs. USA costs would be lower today than they are if Obamacare had not made everything worse, especially for the middle class and the rural poor, not that the Democrats care about anyone except those in their identity politics groups.

Yeah, patents on drugs and patent renewals have kept down costs. Legal advertising of drugs have too. So has automatic coverage for any new treatment. And then there is overbuying medical diagnostic equipment, non-standard record keeping methods, treating every one that comes to the ER, medical malpractice lawsuits, etc. Working great, innit?

Here in the People's Republic of Washington we have something called "Death with Dignity" or what Oregon honestly calls "Assisted Suicide".

True story:I watched a documentary about Death with Dignity here in WA in which one poor fellow offed himself with the assistance of a medical staff.

He was given a drink and he laid down and died.

He seemed healthy enough and able to easily walk and converse with the staff assuring them he knew what would happen and was willing to drink the cocktail.

He laid down and "fell asleep" (like taking one's aged and ailing dog to the vet to be put to sleep).

Some interim footage was not taken but he was shown later being wheeled out dead.

Yes I saw this and yes we were assured it was the real thing.

A promotion documentary? See it's not so bad, save us some money!

I am sorry now that I watched the thing.
