One of the root problems in the world today is the pervasive sense of entitlement. Here is my theory on how it develops.

    1. Generation 1 (early America) people earn everything they get.

    2. After some prosperity, Generation 2 gets some things from their parents they didn't earn. As adults, Generation 2 EXPECTS to get some things they didn't earn.

    3. More prosperity, then Generation 3 gets more things from their parents they didn't earn. As adults, Generation 3 EXPECTS to get more things they didn't earn.

    4. As prosperity levels off, Generation 4 gets a lot of things from their parents they didn't earn. As adults, Generation 4 EXPECTS to get a lot of things they didn't earn.

    5. As prosperity begins to wane, Generation 5 gets everything from their parents they want without earning it. As adults, Generation 5 EXPECTS to get everything for nothing.

    6. The system begins to break down and dictators take over as everyone demands everything for nothing.

    7. The people fly from one dictator/savior to another, looking for salvation, but never finding it.

    8. Where does it end and what is the solution?

And that's a good ending, and I hope He comes soon. But what if it's, let's say, five hundred years before He comes? What then?

I have been told that the "Greatest Generation" suffered much going thru the Great Depression by often going without many necessities and most wants. However, as they became adults - esp after WWII, they were determined that their children would never have to go thru what they did by ensuring their offspring not only having all they needed but much of what they wanted.

BTW, my dad was not one of them. He took care of my needs, but If I wanted something, I had to work for it. That is a lesson I am grateful for.

What's different now is that the recently senior population and the soon to be senior population are so set on the entitlements that they expect the younger generations to pay for it.

Increases in Social Security taxes are going to take a greater and greater share of worker's earnings...

The health care bill is going to be forcing younger people to buy health insurance at inflated premiums to subsidize the elderly...

Benefits to the elederly just keep increasing.

Since you asked, it cometh from our sin nature as noted in the 10th commandment. "All I want is my fair share and a little bit of yours."

Well, yes, you are right. But I guess what I'm saying is how it becomes generally acceptable and gets institutionalized in our political and economic system.

Right from the start the US system was based on the states trying to control the treasury and get more tax revenue than they pay in. That was the major cause of the War of Northern Aggression. Every senator and congressman brags how much "federal" money he was able appropriate for his state. The stupid people in California think that New York is buying them a new bridge and the stupid voters in New York think California is buying them a new bridge.

When the dog has too many ticks, it becomes anemic and eventually will die. This nation has too many parasites on the doll and too many in political office. If we don't pick off some parasites, the second date of the tombstone will be added: U.S. of A. 1776 - _________ .
