The Canaanites, a people who lived among the Israelites, revered Asherah as a goddess of fertility, perhaps even the goddess of sexuality. She was considered the wife of El, the supreme god in Canaanite mythology. The mysterious Asherah poles associated with the worship rites of this goddess were apparently tree trunks stripped of all their branches. The exact function of these poles--often associated with male and female prostitution--is unclear. What is known is that the Israelite prophets considered these poles repulsive and ordered the kings of Israel to cut them down wherever they had been placed.

Its easy to see from the pictures of these stone carvings that soft porn and worship of the female body has its roots in the beggining of time. God found this to be repulsive.

I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

To be honest, men tend to be easily distracted by attractive women. This was a fact of life in bible times as well as today. This verse says that women should try to help out their Christian male friends by not wearing clothing that accentuates their figure, shows off lots of skin, or generally makes the woman look desirable. Men are having a hard time already, so God wants the
women to assist them in their quest to godliness.

If this is how God wants women to dress, can there be any question that nude oil paintings and
nude art are not Godly? Sadly many Christians have been deceived and apply a worldy definition to what constitutes porn, and what is right and wrong. When we look at things through the eyes of God and his word, it all becomes amazingly clear how we are to regard the human body and nudity.

God made clothes for Adam Eve for a reason!!

I think you miss the point of the verse. God's purpose was not to change the dress of women, but to replace the worship of a false god via fornication with worship of the Almighty God with "with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God." The clothing they wore was a side issue to the manner in which they worshipped.

If men have a problem with keeping their eyes off women, I'd venture to guess the problem is more with the men, not the women.

Genesis 9:21-25 Then he deank of the wine and was drunk and became uncovered in his tent. And Ham the father of Cannan saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japeth took a garmet, laid it on both their shoulders and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away so that they did not see the nakedness of there father, So Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his son had done to him and said "Cursed be Canaan a servant of servants he shall be to his brethren.

These verses suggests that nakedness is not good. Probably relating to the state of the world prior to the flood, and the hope that those days would not return, which unfortunatley are returning today.

Perhaps Paul is pointing out that the beauty of women should be on the inside rather than on the outside. He is not condemning nice adornment and clothes in itself. A woman with the beauty of God on the inside looks good no matter how fancy her trinkets and clothes on the outside.

The Asherah Poles were considered Phallic symbols. Sexuality was worshipped by pagans of Biblical times. Not only between men and women but homosexual sex and bestiality.

Christian women should know they dress modestly but you cannot control what the world wears.

Ihave heard many males excuse lusting after beautiful women by blaming what they were wearing but If a man is right in his heart it does not matter he will only be attracted to his wife and if he is single he will avert his eyes immediately.
