    >When the south left the union, it was not a "nation divided", it was two seperate and distinct nations. And the south had the right to form a seperate nation. When they entered the union they did so willingly. And if they had the right to willingly enter into the union, then they should have had the right to withdrawl from said union.

    In other words, Lincoln and his Republican party rejected the words and the philosophy of the Declaration Of Independence and the party still does. All over the world we incite people to rebel against their government.

    History teaches us that rebellion against England in 1776 was a grand, great and noble thing, but rebellion against an oppressive Washington DC in 1860 was treason. Why is it different? How are the colonists heros while the confederates are portrayed as criminal?

    BTW, in Lincoln's time the Republicans were the liberal party, and the Democrats were the conservatives. They have switched roles since then, and the modern RNC has little to nothing in common with their early leaders.
