    From Time November 7th, 2005. I expect the numbers are even more sobering now.

    Every:

    29 seconds a child dies of Malaria in Africa
    18 seconds someone in the world dies of TB
    60 seconds a pregnant woman dies of complications
    6.4 seconds one person is infected by HIV
