LOL, she's real subtil, and NEVER singles anyone out! ;) [IMG]
Mostly I listen to hymns, but a lot of the sound tracks I do in church are a type of southern gospel or gospel. But let me stress that I can't stand the stuff that is called southern gospel and sounds with a rock beat.
"Sweet Beula Land" "Praise God, It's Settled, I'm saved" "The Midnight Cry" "If That Isn't Love" "It's Not New." "We Need Revival" "The Old Rock Alter." Those are the ones I sing regularly.
When pastor started our church one of the families that helped start it were the Rochester's. They raised their kids, Becky, Brady, Benjamen, and Brett there. They were all talented in music. Benjamen can play almost anything by ear and Becky sings like an angel. They started them kids singing young, and eventualy the family started writting their own songs and traveling to churches to play. They come back to be with us each year at Christmas and we surely look forward to them.
They've got to be, besides my pastor's wife, my favorite people to hear sing. All of their songs have a firm Bible messege.
I have several of their CD's that I play ALL the time! we listen to em in the car, and then I play em at home!
I also have some CD's a friend of mine gave me, NO idea who is singing, but I really enjoy hearing them. It's got songs like "The Blood will Never Lose It's Power." "We want America Back" "Thankyou Lord."
There is also a radio station I pick up that plays old fashioned hymns all day just about....and I either have my CD's playing, or that station playing.
Now, I know besides me someone else will have something to list! :D

Kayla, I've never heard Lordsong. I'll be sure and give a report on the concert.

As for Mark Lowry, he's one of those cross-over artists that seem to be accepted in more than one genre of Christian music. Technically he would probably be considered CCM, although a very mild form of it. But he does sing Southern gospel too, and is beloved among more traditional-Christian music types because of his longtime participation in the Gaither reunion tours and video's. In some ways, he defies categorization.

BTW, I think he just gets funnier all the time! :D

And as co-author of the beautiful Christmas song, "Mary Did You Know?" Lowry has secured his place as a songwriter whose music will probably outlast his life. Every year I interview a man who is a Christmas carol expert and chooses a "Carol of the Year." I asked him once if there was any modern Christmas song that would endure and become a classic, and he said yes..."Mary Did You Know."

For Kayla and all...I went to the Mark Lowry concert over the weekend, and I enjoyed it and was thoroughly blessed!

Mark is so funny (and I laughed a LOT :D ), that you sometimes lose sight of what a gifted vocalist he is. When he sang "Mary Did You Know," and "Isn't It Amazing?" I was blown away. Very powerful and stirring!

I also really enjoyed Lordsong and pianist Stan Whitmyre. My family and were able to meet the ladies of Lordsong after the concert, and they were so nice and gracious.

I wanted to meet Mark as well, but there was a line to meet him that stretched halfway to Siberia, so I gave up.

Found out something really neat that Mark did. An elderly lady I know, who is a huge Mark Lowry fan, wasn't able to attend the concert. Somehow, Mark found out, called her on the phone and talked to her for about fifteen minutes! What a nice guy.

Come on people, while all those groups and individuals mentioned are pretty good, how come no one has mentioned the greatest Southern Gospel group of all time; The Cathedrals? Hmmmm? :D No one, and I mean no one, could hit those low notes like George Younce. And Glenn Payne? Now there was a voice!! When he went home to be with the Lord, a great voice was silenced.

    God Bless!!!

p.s. the second greatest SG group of all time would have to be The Kingsmen [IMG]

When I was in Bible College I was at a gathering of Southern Gospel singers in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Each group tried to outsing the other. We had a grand time.

I have the Cathedral Quarter, J.D. Sumner & The Stamps Quartet, and the Cumberland Boys. The last group sings "There Is A River."

Some of the singers have gone to be with the Lord, but I keep trying to get the younger people's Southern Gospel singing. To me, it lifts my spirit whenever I listen to them. They have been a great ministry to me.

Okay now, if you love (or even just like) Southern Gospel, you should have Sky Angel Christian Satellite in your HOME! Let's go Baptist's, let's show the world Christian's have there own TV service. Sky Angel carries GMT, Gospel Music Television (Southern) 24/7 and Solid Gospel Radio 24/7. I'm going to post their site, www.skyangel.com. This is not just about how to get Southern Gospel music in your home, but a way to get Sky Angel and show support for a Christian satellite company. You have secular cable or satellite, don't you?
