Here is the meaning of "ge" from Strong's: Strong's Greek: 1093. γῆ (gé) -- the earth, land . "Ge" can be translated as "earth" or "land" in Revelation. "Land" is more appropriate considering the context.
Remember, Rev mentions the KINGS(plural) of the "ge". Judea at that time had only ONE king - Caesar.
Matthew 17 verses 24-25 gives us a big clue for the identity of the "kings of the earth" in Revelation 17:

24 After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” he replied.
When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”

The high priests of the Temple benefited from the temple tax that is mentioned in Matt. 17. Christ referred to them as "kings of the earth (land)" here.

    Why not?

Remember, satan is to be freed when the millenium is over, & he will spread sin once again, & incite an army to come against Jesus in Jerusalem. But Scripture says fire shall come from heaven & devour that army.

And jesus is quite-easily able to protect His saints from harm

    Yes. It's jesus' return.

Something else to consider. Jerusalem had it's own set of 7 hills/mountains: Mt. of Olives, Mt. Zion, Mt. Scopus, Mt. of Offense, Hill of Evil Counsel, Northwestern Hill, Northeastern Hill

    MMRRPP! WRONG AGAIN!

Jesus was referring to the kings of the various nations, as you should easily see, were you not so obsessed with trying to prove the false preterism doctrine correct.

No way Jose! Christ was referring to the temple tax. It is clear as day.

Another thing to consider regarding Revelation 18 is verse 22 regarding the music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters, will not be heard in her(Babylon - Jerusalem) again.

Instruments and music played a big part in Temple ceremonies. The Levites would provide singing and instrumental music for the morning and evening services. Silver trumpets were blown seven times a day. Flutes were played on 12 different festival occasions. With the destruction of the 2nd Temple in 70AD, the sounds of music would not be heard anymore.

Doesn't anyone else see the connections to the 2nd Temple from Rev. 18?

Since this thread will be locked down soon, this will be my last post on this thread. Here is a description of the kings of the scarlet beast from a friend of mine who did the research. It does fit with actual history of 1st century Jerusalem:

Revelation 17:10 - "and there are 7 kings: five are fallen" (the first 5 high priests of the House of Annas would have died as of John's writing) "and ONE IS" (still living - which would probably be Matthias ben Ananus, the youngest son) "and the other IS NOT YET COME; and WHEN HE COMETH," (Ananus ben Ananus was appointed as high priest in AD 62, which means that Revelation had to have been written BEFORE AD 62) "he must continue A SHORT SPACE" (because Ananus had James the Just, Christ's half-brother executed and overstepped his office's authority in doing so. He was deposed for this, after serving a brief 3 months.) "and the beast that WAS" (the Scarlet Beast who was the independent kingdom-nation of Israel that had first been launched by the Maccabeus family around 142 BC) "and IS NOT", (because Israel as an independent kingdom ceased to exist in 63 BC when Pompey incorporated it into the Roman Republic) "even he is AN EIGHTH" (because the independent kingdom of Israel resurfaced in AD 66, led by the 8th member of the house of Annas as its high priest, a grandson named Matthias ben Theophilus) " and is OF THE SEVEN" (Matthias was in the genetic line of the House of Annas) "and goes into destruction" (because Matthias was also murdered by the Zealots in AD 66 during their temple siege).
