In truth what is appropriate varies from church to church.

It also varies from ministerial position to ministerial position. As a youth minister, they let me wear jeans a lot, and shorts in the summer. As I interact a lot with the students, my wearing a coat and tie would just be weird.

I do dress up when I make hospital visits and when I am representing the church in official business, but mostly, jeans and a polo (or one of our youth ministry T-shirts) for me. Of course, after my Raptors win the night before, I wear one of my Toronto Raptors shirts or jacket! [IMG]

Our Pastor wears a suit and tie, or slacks, tie and jacket, for services, whatever day of the week. When not having services he wears whatever he wants...usually his county uniform for during the week. (No he's not a prisoner...he works for the county.)

I've seen him in shorts probably 1,000 times. It is not a pretty sight. [IMG]

I dress like the men in the congregation. In my last church it was a bit more formal, with suits, ties and slacks. Where I am now it is not formal in the least. Here there is jeans and dress jeans, Sunday gets the dress jeans. Usually you will find me in jeans, cowboy boots, and a button down type shirt, all neatly pressed with plenty of starch and a cowboy hat.

Sunday morning: slacks, shirt, tie - sometimes a suit-coat, but only if it's cool (it gets too hot under those heat lamps, and the jacket winds up off most of the time anyway - and the sleeves come up.)

Sunday evening: same as Sunday AM, except I shed the tie. Many times, I were the Awana "Pastors" shirt instead, since our program is on Sunday nights.

Wednesday: Clean jeans, shirt, shoe/socks that match the shirt.

Through the week (especially during the hunting season): Mossy Oak Forest Floor - my favorite camo along with rotten leaves and dirt cover scent!

Being in the middle of the Everglades in Fl....
Sunday suit and tie, weddings and funerals same. All other times jeans and t-shirt or casual shirt.
Of course, when you're liable to be chased by a boar on visitation....makes sense to wear something you can move in!

He (hubby) wears a suit on Sunday morning, drops the coat and tie Sun night, and wears khakis and a nice shirt on Wednesday. If he is going to the hospital or to visit an older person, he dresses like Wed, night, but jeans otherwise. Shorts in summer, camoflouge when appropriate ( and sometimes when not, too).
He doesnt cut the grass, but if he did, it would be his "scuzzies".
There is only one lady in church that tells him how to dress. She's never pleased anyway, even when he does what she asks.
When we first came here, though, he didnt own a suit and the church bought him two for Christmas.

Untangled...I said it tongue in cheek...a joke.

Only suggesting that no question is ever stupid. So one shouldn't suggest that it is.

We should always dress our best for services and for God. We are trying to show the world that we have something they do not. I believe that from the Pastor on down, we should wear our best in church.

Nothing wrong with casual on your own time. The world is dressing down. You see casual at weddings, funerals etc. This didn't happen 30 yrs ago. The world changes. God's people should not.

    Three questions,

How would you dress if you knew that Jesus himself were attending your service?

    How would Jesus dress?

How did Jesus dress when he was amongst mankind?

I see nothing in scripture that says one should dress any way but what is normal to the segment of society you want to align with.

A Pastor should be appropriately dressed for whatever he's doing. On his own time, he may dress in whatever is comfortable and suits the occasion. I would think a God ordained minister would know what to wear to be pleasing to God. I did not say "pleasing to himself or pleasing to others".
    Hey, what would Jesus wear?
