Today the Supreme Court (hereafter SC) will be hearing a case asking them to dismiss a Chicago law banning handguns in the city.

You can read about it here: Supreme Court to Hear Gun Rights Case

This could get very constitutionally interesting. As I understand the Constitution, it pertains to the limits of the federal government and will allow states to enact appropriate laws.

Now the NRA is asking the Supreme Court to have the Second Amendment apply to states and localities as well as the federal government.

What say ye? Oh, I think I'll add a poll...

There is a fundamental right to own a gun in the constitution. Banning them is not appropriate. This will be overturned as was the DC ban 5 to 4

Our right to arms is guaranteed by our US constitution. Banning guns is unconstitutional and should not be tolerated by US citizens.

All banning guns does is to prevent law abiding people from protecting themselves against the criminals who prey on them, It won't stop criminals from getting and owning any weapon they want--including automatics that they use against the police.

If you have the money and don't care how you get it, you can own any weapon you want--including missle launchers. That isn't just on TV; real life criminals are just as ruthless and heartless as TV criminals.

And there in lies the rub. They do not want you to defend yourself. They want you on equal footing with the criminals. They think they have just as much right to live as you even if they break into your house. How dare you take their life in protection of your own and your family. Shame on you.

How often have you had to defend yourself with a gun in your home?

Who cares why should you take that right from me? If it is zero or ten it is all the same. The constitution gives us the right to own arms. And far left extreme liberals like yourself want to change the founding of this country. To bad.

Are you admitting that you have never had to use a gun in defending your home?

Do you hunt?

As a kid growing up we had rifles and shotguns for hunting. That is different. Actually you have no need for a rifle or shotgun unless you hunt.

Have I said I want to take away your right to owning a gun? No. But if you have no need for one ........ After all how many kids have been killed when they found an "empty" gun at home. And how many murders have been committed because a gun was handy ... no time to cool down and be rational.

You were a Marine so you must have had some training in handling a rifle and using it safely. Far too many people have not had any training.

Your imagination runs wild when someone seems to counter your opinion. I find it most amusing.

So, CTB, why should it be illegal for me to defend my family? If you're so into "freedom" and "liberty," what gives you that right?

Yep, liberal are all for giving women the right to kill the baby in her womb, but they so worried about the rare instance when a child finds a loaded gun. The logic of liberals never ceases to amaze me.

I am glad you asked. I shot a river rat in my cabin that could have bitten my leg off. Shot him with my 22/250. I would not want to get close enough to that critter to let him attack me, I'm not sure what it could have done to my then 4 year old daughter, and I prevented a lot of potential damage to my home.

As usual, all you offer to the conversation is ridicule of a contrary statement to your pre-programmed libbie brain damage.

Had a 30-30 at the ready one day when I was a teenager. There was a rabid fox way off. He didn't come our way however.

Now I could have used the same rifle another day when a Angus bull decided I should not be in the same field as he. Fortunately I outran him.

So you having a gun when you need one is great - but at the same time you want to deny others the same self protection.

Typical liberal hypocrisy.

Typical liberal hypocrisy.

I remember seeing an article a few years ago that listed a number of celebrities that had spoken out against gun-ownership...they were all under the daily protection of armed bodygaurds. Please ban the ownership of guns...except the ones protecting us. Please do as we say...not as we actually do!

Yep, he's going to let the police come and defend him when someone is breaking into his home. Good luck with that unless you have a policeman living in your house with you. After all that is said and done all the police can do is come and take finger prints and even worse call in CSI to find forensic evidence as the coroner removes you body and that of your family. A lot of good the gun ban did except to make things easier for the thief and murderer. Gun laws do nothing except to make it easier for the criminal to prey on law abiding citizens. Again, the logic of a liberal is amazing.

Absolutely. Chicago's law is unconstitutional.

State's and cities are no empowered to take away rights from citizens guaranteed to them by the U.S. Constitution.
