    From another thread:

In addition The UK also has the VAT (sales tax) of 20%
In the US - there is no federal sales tax - but States/commonwealths have their own

Those statewide rates range from 0% to 9.5%
State and Local Sales Tax Rates, 2020

In the USA - a married couple do not pay any tax on the first 24,000 dollars.
That amount would be increased if you have minor children.
There are other exemptions and ect...
(Note: the US tax code is 70,00 + pages long!)

Also as a point of reference:
    $ 1 = £ 0.737
    £ 1 = $ 1.35

Looks like you guys have a better deal on taxation.

Paid holidays by US employers is 10 days per year. In the UK it is about 20. In the civil service where I used to work, it was 7 weeks!

The USA is the worlds largest economy, and also the highest debt.

Ten days for Holidays - well, maybe the Federal govt
    but not all employers!

    Usually:
    New Years Day
    Memorial Day (May)
    Independence Day (4 Jul)
    Labor Day (Sep)
    Thanksgiving Day (Nov)
    Christmas

Opitional days that might be given:
    King day (Jan)
    Presidents Day (Feb)
    Second Easter ( North Carolina)
    Columbus Day (Oct)
    Veterans Day (Nov)

Government workers in the UK get 4 weeks holiday in the year after 6 months in the job. Thereafter it rises yearly to about 7-8 weeks each year. Most other employers give 4 weeks plus all the normal days which are roughly 10
