In Tennessee we are facing a projected $1 billion budget deficit for the current year, and yet the first order of business is making it safe to carry a gun into a bar. Give me a break! :BangHead:

Curtis, some folks just don't get it.

 

Oh, I get it. I understand the rationale for hunting wild game. I realize that it can be necessary to keep a gun to protect your property and even your person in some occupations. However, I am not going to pretend that carrying a gun just to go about armed on the offhand chance that you might need to shoot somebody can be justified by the Christian faith. It is contrary to the teachings of Jesus, and it is a perversion of the gospel message. I do not own a gun. I have done some target shooting when I was a young teenager, so I understand the thrill of pulling the trigger and of hitting the target. But, going about armed just to be armed ain't part of my understanding of what it means to be a Christian.

From a Second Amendment perspective, I would be perfectly happy if bans were put on possession of handguns and assault weapons. This would include a ban on the manufacture of these guns for sales to anyone outside of the military. We have too many guns in this country and too many killings due to the easy availability of guns. I believe that about covers it. Let the bashing begin! :tonofbricks:

I understand what you are saying, but it wouldn't work. If we could wake up tomorrow in a world where no private citizen owned a gun of any kind, I would go to the sporting goods store first thing and buy a crossbow. This is just in case some thief or robber in the area decided to violate my family or property. I guess after crossbows are banned, we could turn to swords, or axe handles for that matter. Of course, when they are likewise banned... Like I said, it will not work.

 

I don't see anywhere in scripture that says we can't defend ourselves.
They had swords and I know Jesus told peter to put away his but this was because of his purpose being fulfilled. He never said get rid of the swords.
If I had to protect my family and someone broke into my house, I have no problem using a weapon(gun) to stop them from hurting my wife and kids.

 

Amen. Only in the mind of pacifist should a Christian be unarmed. I will take the opposite view and suggest that if you are NOT armed you are not doing your duty to your family and fellow man. It is immoral in my opinion not to take the necessary means to provide protection for your family YOURSELF instead of depending on the government to do it for you.

And shooting wild game also provides for one's family.

 

Sure that makes a lot of sense, allow people to carry guns where alcohol is being consumed. I'm sure that will turn out well.
