My own opinion here, but I think that bitterness is looked upon as a virtue of the left. Thus the double standard in the media.
Bitterness is a tool of the left, and to a lesser degree, a tool of the right. I think there are very few people on this board who vote for or believe like the far left that Obama and his Chicago thugs represent.
However, having said that, there is no excuse for Christians defending individuals with a character like Rush Limbaugh. We as Christians believe that abortion is wrong, that gay rights is wrong, because the Lord says it is wrong. We do what we can to advance our positions because we care about living in a society that is Christ-like and pleasing to the Lord. We really believe in these issues, because even aside from being a Christian, a man and a woman is the natural order of things, as is defending the precious gift of life. Our motivation is a love for the Lord, and caring for our fellow human beings.
Why do people like Rush Limbaugh and Mitt Romney speak against abortion and gay rights? In the case of Mitt Romney, it is to collect votes and advance his political ambitions. While governor of Massachusetts, he was for gay rights and abortion. Now he is against it. In essence, he panders for votes in exchange for the blood of innocent children. The fact is he does not care one iota about abortion one way or the other. He cares about votes and his power.
In the case of Rush Limbaugh, he advances the agenda to increase his audience and profits. He is a leech who feeds off the baser instincts of human beings, no better than a person who makes a living by spreading offensive magazines and videos, or a program such as Jerry Springer, to be nice about it. Rush Limbaugh represents the lowest form of humanity, and it is not related to being a liberal or conservative.
The Lord calls people like this whitewashed tombs. It is one thing for Romney and Limbaugh to do things to harm themselves, it is quite another for them to use the Lord's work to advance their own self serving, worldly desires.
Personally, I could tolerate being in the presence of (not joining in) drunks and other catagories of immoral people than I could being in the presence of either of the two mentioned above. There is a difference between sin and pure evil.
