Agreed. These guys are so much better than the Proletarian Broadcasting System that it isn't even funny.

My family were escaped slaves. Not in chains, but slaves nonetheless.

Came from Ireland in the 1844 wave. Given a "job" (70 hours a week), house, chits for food and supplies from the company store. Problem, they made less each week than it cost to live.

So no matter how hard they worked, they could not leave or quit or do anything. Virtual slavery, almost (not quite, but close) to the blacks of the South.

So no stake in Texas. Would be good to see how many slaves in Texas in 1836? I would think it to be minimal.

IF it was a cause of the fight, it was extremely minor issue.

But at least they didn't have us Irish . . .

I thought the History Channel's presentation was very good, very balanced.

On the whole I love the History Channel (my TV is tuned there most of the time), but it does air some less-than-stellar productions, especially dealing with conspiracy theories and UFOs.

BTW, Dr. Bob, the Irish didn't attempt to take over Mexico, but they did invade Canada ...

Here is a personal (amusing?) story that may or may not reflect the Mexican attitude toward the Alamo and General Santa Anna. A number of years ago, I had a Mexican student whose father was a lawyer in Mexico City. Our conversation went something like this:

Myself: What do you think about the Alamo? Is General Santa Anna a big hero in Mexico?

Student: Oh, no sir! All Mexicans hate Santa Anna! Santa Anna was dumb--he stupid cause he not give old Mexico to the Americans when they take Texas!

Well, I suppose we wouldn't have a border problem now if he had. [IMG]
