Yep toys. You don't need a smart watch to prevent you dying from a heart attack. It's called "going for a walk and eating healthy". I have an app on my phone called MyFitnessPal that helps to track calories and I have another app called RunKeeper that keeps track of my running and walking. I also bought a pair of $100 running shoes (BIG expense for me) and I've got 250 miles on the shoes now. So I'm out $100 (which has actually saved me because of a torn tendon in my foot and I haven't needed surgery yet with a good pair of shoes) and my heart is quite healthy. No need for a smartwatch.

It's 1999 and there is no need for a smartphone! Just stick to your flip phone or landline! Think about that.

Excuses. I lived in Colorado my whole life until getting married. It's not that hard to find out how to deal with predators. There was a black bear at a camp I want to once as a child. Guess what we all followed the rules and no one was harmed. This article tells you what to do.

Besides as someone else said sidewalks are free and if you don't want to go to the mountains there is always Civic Center Park or even the 16th Street Mall.

If you are in debt there is no reason to spend close to $500 on a toy. Your income is irrelevant if you don't exercise control as expense will always rise with income if you don't have self control.

The reality is that one can live without even having a phone.

That's another problem. When the novelty wears off and the next thing is here, what you and I may purchase today becomes far too quickly obsolete. I had a Palm Treo 90 (the model they made before they made the one that could make calls) for about two weeks. My nephew dropped it, but it was no big loss.

I always though it'd be interesting to have a smartwatch that could replace a smartphone. Until then, I don't have a use for them. And even then, I don't think I'd give up a watch for a smartwatch. Maybe I'd wear it on my other wrist.....except I'm right handed. :Frown

Yep. People think that it is a matter of income. It really is expenses that get people into trouble. Have seen it happen to lower-income people and supposedly wealthy people both.

OK I thought about it. Doesn't sound like a bad time.
Also the mechanics of exercise have not changed since 1999.

Smartphones are not necessities, although they are handy.

When we replace phones for our guys in the field we get go-phones. These are typically android OS, but they run the same apps as my phone. They are not built as well, but we still get about 2 years out of the phones if they are not accidentally broken (except the last one I replaced only lasted 8 months). We use them because they are so easy to replace, do have the danger of getting broken, and are simple to replicate (the apps/data, ect). The ones we get cost about $40.

Even these $40 phones are more than we really need.

Please be careful. Looks like there it could be dangerous just getting from one's sedan into Curves:

"Parker Police responded to a call of a mountain lion in the area of Parker Road and Mainstreet on June 8. It was seen in the Hobby Lobby parking lot in this photo taken by one of their sergeants."

Have you bought the airpods yet? It seems they'd integrate great with the phone and watch (for music).

    Yes she did and.... ?

You already have a smart phone so you are not going into more debt to download a free app. And as I said exercise have not changed. Go for walks and watch what you eat. Simple. No NEED for a $475 TOY.

I can understand the idea that an Apple Watch falls more into the luxury category than the necessity category, but you can question just about any purchase a person makes.

You can always save more. You can always invest better. Etc, etc.

As long as you don't go overboard with it, I don't worry about it. I know that I personally spend money on entertainment as a stress relief, but if I didn't do that, I'd lose my mind (not joking--I've spent time in the hospital, which is even more expensive!).
