Yippee! I get to be the first at the new location.

Hmm, it looks a lot roomier than the old place, Sherrie, and the upholstery is in better condition.

    That's not Ed's '55 Pontiac, is it?

rsr.... [IMG] ...why yes...I think that is! But judging from the lights on the car behind it...is that a Rambler? No...the more I study it, it has to be a Ford. Rambler had 2 lights on each side. Sorry. False alarm.

We do not have any Parking Meters in Dexter. It is only a matter of time. But the picture above, sent me looking for this:

    Ode to a parking meter

    In praise of spring-loaded technology

    by PHILIP PREVILLE

Later this year, Stationnement de Montréal (SDM) will begin testing new electronic machinery designed to replace all the city's parking meters. They have no choice: no one manufactures the old-style parking meters anymore.

Parking meters are the ultimate low-tech machine. They're small, unobtrusive, eco-friendly (no electrical current) and they levy hefty fines only against eco-unfriendly urban motorists. And though no one makes them anymore, they're hardly obsolete: since 1994, the number of parking meters in Montreal has increased from 11,775 to 15,538.

In 1998, motorists dropped a total of $20,221,104 in spare change into the meters. And though motorists hate them, the old parking meters can be easily scammed with slugs, washers, wires and other inventive jimmying devices. SDM refused to say which methods are most popular. SDM did say, however, that more and more meters are being cracked open by change-hungry thieves.

And then there are the tickets: in 1998, 254,764 tickets were issued to motorists whose time on the meter had expired. They also wrote up 1,670 infractions for cars taking up the space of two meters, and 716 more for people who put money into the machine but forgot to turn the crank and spring-load the timer. At $37 a pop, that's over $9 million worth of tickets.

15,538 parking meters also means 15,538 bicycle parking spaces interspersed throughout the city. Technically, it's illegal to park your bike on a meter, but the bylaw is not enforced. Every year, about 20 bicycle skeletons (already scavenged for their seats, tires and other removable parts) are abandoned at the stake; SDM warehouses them for a year and then, if no one calls to claim them, hands them over to charity.

Final factoid: The SDM does not yet know exactly what the new meters will look like. But expect the following: there will be only one or two meters per block to handle the same number of parking spaces, resulting in a loss of bicycle parking; they will be slug-proof and jimmy-resistant; and they will accept credit and debit cards, which means they're less liable to be vandalized because they'll hold less real money. You may hate the old meters now, but you'll be missing them soon.

    Brother Jonmagee!

I don't know how to tell ya this, lad but . . .the newbies are after me about adding on to the Coffee Shop! They want something that will attract the men to the shop beside that there Iron Brew stuff----soooooooooooo, here's what I'm thinkin'----now, ya'll stop me if ya'll think Blackbird's "Goose" is cooked--if ya'll think Blackbird is "Rockin' in a straight chair!", ya'll stop 'im--but I believe my idea will work and may even boost sales for the Iron Brew and for the Java that Sister Sherrie sales---here it is----

I've been thinkin' along the lines of puttin' in a Bass Pro Shop!!!!!! You see, a good buddy of mine still livin' down in Louisiana has one of those in his hardware store--goes over big with the men in town!

Nooooowwwwww, I know what you women are thinkin'--Ole Blackbird is a gun enthusiast--and he's gonna get in there in his little(for now!) corner of the coffee shop and start sellin' firearms--pistols, ammo, paper targets, "Billy" clubs, brass knuckles and junk like that----noooooo, ya'll have Blackbird figured wrong!!!!

I give you my word---no firearms! I promise! Men, you'll be on your own there--you can run to Wal-Mart while your wife is in the Coffee Shop and browse the shotguns and rifles--let that little female clerk wait on ya--"What kinda gun is this??" "I don't know! I just started workin' here yesterday! How should I know?? I don't go huntin'!!"---that's the customer satisfaction you'll get from there!!!

But here it'll be different!! We'll display and sell fishin' gear!!! Bass lures! Artificial stuff! Top water, deep divers, spinner baits! Reel and rods--spin cast, beginner reels all the way up to professional grade stuff! Tackle for Bream fish and white perch! Then, Sister Sherrie says that she can nearabout throw a rock from her house and hit the Mighty Mississippi--we'll sell trot line gear and "stink" bait for all of you catfish enthuisiast who want to take your chances of gettin' caught in the mighty river's "undertoe!"

When the fish ain't bitin'--we can sell misquito repellant and campin' equipment--flashlights and batteries and LP bottled gas!!

There!!! That ought ta about cover it!! I'll talk it over at the next "stockholders" club meetin'---now that ole Gib is on board and is a bonified share holder--he gets a little "say so!"---I just know that ole rsr, rodh, and Ninety-nine will "swing their votes" in my direction!!

Meanwhile, Sister! Can ya bring that pot over here for a second--ole Blackbird can see the bottom of his cup!!! Let me know somethin' so I can make my necessary phone calls! I can get it set up in about half a day!! What do ya'll ladies think?? Sounds like a "No loose!" situation, don't it!!

Your Southern Baptist preachin', hook settin' buddy!

Sherrie: Since you are the weatherwoman; could you PLEASE make sure I have 5 straight days of no rain so I can get this house painted outside?!?

Good Morning All! I am still wearing a bag over my head because I have too many curls!!! Sunday I was The Unknown Christian . Today I will be The Unknown Shopper.

I will take my DDP to go this morning please, I want to get to the store before a lot of peeps get there. If I don't venture out to get groceries, it's gonna be PB sandwiches for supper! Besides, they have ribs on sale and I can hardly wait to try Kate's crockpot recipe for them! [IMG]

That poll was fun Sherrie. I didn't realize there were three people on here that just moved and are in the process of remodeling. [IMG]

Off to the grocery store. It is supposed to rain today (was gonna wear my shower cap), otherwise, it will have to be the bag! [IMG]

    HAGD all! Cyal!

Good morning to all. Well, well, new facilities and already moving along.

I am going to be absent for a few days. Not to be alarmed, I am just too busy with drawings for a bit.......I must tear myself away from the shop.

This morning devotions are found in 1 Sam 18: 3,4

"Then Jonathon and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathon stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle."

Jonathon knew that David was to be king, and he would never ascend the throne. With this thought, Jonathon divested himself of all appearances of royalty including his armaments. Why? Because of a total commitment to David; absolute love for him.

How much are we prepared to divest for a brother or sister in Christ? Are we prepared to recognize another above ourselves? Ought we not to acknowledge the King of kings in the same vein? Divest ourselves of all claims to the heavenly throne and acknowledge King Jesus. This is not to make the odd curtsy or bow, but to be continually in service to Him. He is deserving of nothing less than our all.

In verse 5 we see the results of David going out amongst the people: (1) David went wherever he was sent; (2) he behaved himself wisely; (3) He was accepted by the soldiers and servants.

If we are to find favour with the King in our service, can we give less?

    Cheers to all, God bless,

    Jim

Jim...very good devotion! Very good! Well do not work too hard, and hope all goes well. See you in 2 days. Pop in every once in awhile to just say hi if you can.

I will see all later on the board...I am off to visit my new friends in Christ.

    Good morning everybody.

Stiches are out and everything there
is looking good. But the Dermatologist
got handy with his frozen helium
sprayer. He sprayed 13 spots total:
on both fore arms, left ear,
and face. A couple of these places
are as big as a nickle. He says he wants
    to preclude another surgery.
