Sherrie: I've been popping in to read, just haven't had a lot of time to post. I have been taking advantage of 'no rain' to paint on the outside.

FYG: I don't follow the Adkins diet per se. I just don't eat bread, potatoes, or pasta (makes it easy to remember). I try to keep my carbs down and that works. Congrats on your weight loss!

WS: It's called "polevaulting".

Jon: I love kilts and bagpipes. Skirts or kilts are much less restrictive when running than pants. Your song reminded me of an Irish tune, "Who Put the Overalls in Mrs. Murphy's Chowder?".

Ed: I hope you get to feeling better real soon. I have Chronic Bronchitis all year 'round, thankfully it doesn't always go into pneumonia, but it is still miserable...allergies set it off as well as humidity and stress.

Blackbird: I need you to bring your John Deere up here and pull some fence posts out for me! If hubby uses his truck, it won't have a bumper left!

Yesterday started out bad, but got progressively worse. I was supposed to leave the shelter at 8am, but I didn't see the bus until it was too late. As a result, I didn't leave until 10am. Then when I got downtown, I found out that the body shop was not downtown like I thought it was. I had to walk almost 2 miles to reach it When I got there, the claims rep from Nationwide told me that he would look at my car sometime later yesterday. I guess he never did 'cause he never called me back.

Leaving there I noticed an "Enterprise" rent-a-car office(they have special rates with Nationwide), so I inquired about a rental car. So many folks in Jackson need them that they have to import cars from Memphis. Anyhow, they had no car but one of their associates was nice enough to give me a ride back downtown I subsequently called them, but still no car

When I got to the motel I've been staying at, I found out that they are closing the place down; I have until tomorrow to move my stuff out. Fortunately, I have talked to a friend on campus as well as one of my pastors regarding storage space But that wasn't all. I found that my car had been moved after the debris was cleared. A guy staying there told me that they brought in a fork-lift and moved the cars. I tried starting my car, but nothing happened. The headlights don't even work So I guess the forklift operator pierced the wiring in my car to make it unoperable So I have two issues: Finding a permanent place to stay, and possibly finding another car. If I have to get another car, I'm gonna miss that Mustang It was a fun car to drive; at times I even felt like Bo Duke in the General Lee as I was on the road.

I almost missed the bus back to the shelter When I did, that was the first time I had lost my temper(out of three times) yesterday When I got back to the shelter, I ate dinner and went to a singles' seminar the host church was sponsoring. Then after that one of the women there offered to give me a ride to work this morning. But when I got back to the shelter, one of the volunteers there unloaded on me. He wanted to know when I plan to leave; he wants to close the shelter by Friday. He also started acting like God by telling me that I need to leave Jackson in order to live a better life, because he thinks it's gonna take a year for the city to rebuild. He also said that a larger city like Memphis will have more housing. I tried to tell him of my double dilemma, but he wouldn't buy it. He even told me that I wouldn't be able to get a rental car because of the high demand. I think I am going to register a complaint with the Red Cross, this volunteer had no business unloading on me like that. And I was so mad that not only my heart was pounding, but my shoulder was hurting.

I will fill you guys in on what's been happening today on another reply, so I am not taking up too much room.

 

Good Morning everyone, from Ohio! All is great here. The sun is shining today.....HOORAY! No rain! Still is on the windy side, but that's ok. Temp is supposed to be in the 60's today!

I just had a Red-winged blackbird tap at the window in front of me. A blind is in the window and opened, he didn't see me. Boy is he a beauty! Where's your camera when you need it?

Well, I'll take a cup of coffee with some half/half please. And pass me the local newspaper, I'm trying to find a good used gas dryer. Mine is on it's last legs!!!!!

The last two nights I have had problems sleeping. More so than the normal "tossin and turnin". They run the air conditioner all nite at the shelter, and it sounds like it's raining really hard, even when it's clear outside. And then last nite I had a nightmare where an earthquake hit Tennessee, and I didn't know what to do

I woke up at 330, showered, prayed, took my medicine, and headed to the office. I got in the van to head for Senatobia, but my heart wasn't really in it. I wanted to work, but then my fears came true when the "time sheet" was passed to me. All of a sudden, I flipped out and started crying. To me it was a combination panic attack and emotional breakdown. The supervisor driving the van took me back to the shelter, and assured me that things would be OK. She even gave me the phone # for one of our Area Managers. I called him, and he pretty much told me to take things easy. I appreciate everyone's support from my job, but I am wondering if I am the only employee for RGIS District 315(Jackson, TN) that is having physical and emotional issues regarding the recent tornado

I went back to sleep, and was able to relax and have some quality sleep. I then walked over to campus, ate breakfast, and got on the computer. I am going to try and talk to the on-campus counselor I talked to last week.

 

Jimmy, I'm sorry you're going through this. I doubt you're the only one who is going through the emotions.
I understand them. I've never had anything destroyed in one, but I lived in Cooperstown, Pennsylvania in May of 1985. I was home alone with a brother and our town got hit. I still sleep under blankets during storms and panic more than I should, but a pastor helped me get through the main fear of it. (I used to hide in corners, it was bad) The whole town was woods, after the tornado you could look across. My neighbors cousin lived in a trailer that got picked up, the mom and baby got sucked out a window but were ok, the trailer wrapped around a tree with her cousin still in it and he died. There were animals in trees.
It's not something you forget, but it is something that you deal with in time and the fear does start to go away. I'm still learning to deal with not panicking when I hear a train or semi when it's cloudy, but where I used to run and hide before I use common sense and look at the weather conditions and the extremely rare possiblility that this could happen again.
And if it does, the worst that could happen is I die. I'm simply not afraid of death anymore. I won't invite it, lol, but if there's nothing I can do then so be it. But then again, I've been through labor.
I really wish I could remember what my pastor said, all I remember is that it really helped and the part about trusting God and not being fearful stuck.
I don't know if this helps you at all, but there it is. Study storms and learn about them, learn what a tornado is and what causes it, get to understand how the weather works, because a lot of the fear goes away when you understand it.

Hello All.

Jimmy, your reaction is completely normal. What wouldn't be normal is if you didn't have a reaction at all. It's good that it came out a little. Better than holding it in that's for sure. Take it easy on yourself...remember this just happened. No one expects things to go back to normal immediately...these things take time.

Dan had to go to the doctor today. He makes me so mad!!! He didn't want to tell me why? Men can be really aggrivating with all this "protect the woman" garbage! Anyway, I'll let you know if he needs prayer as soon as we get the tests back. Worse case scenario, it could be the cancer back again. Best case scenario, well...I don't know, but I'm sure there is one.

Haven is home sick with a cold today. She seemed really sick this morning, and now she's got lots of energy. Well...she'll be going tomorrow...that's for sure.

Got a call from my son's teacher yesterday...Mr. Attitude problem got in trouble for his behavior. Had to write standards. He is just bound and determined to make himself as miserable as possible in school. If he would just have a postive attitude...he might actually have fun. I don't know where he gets it.

A quick hello to everyone. We had lightning strike the building where I work and somehow it got past a couple surge protectors and knocked out one computer, a 16 port hub, and the network card on another one of our critical computers. So I have been running around fixing and replacing things all day. I've got to run again, so I will probably check in again in the morning if everything has settled down here.
