Until they change the meaning of the phrase "secret documents" Mr. Assange is nothing but a tattle tale who shouldn't be trusted with ALL secrets by ANYONE and he is bent on hurting this country IN PARTICULAR.
as far as I am concerned he is an enemy of the people, and that guy who gave him all those classified documents is an enemy.

A secret is a secret, whether it is right to keep them as such or not, and whether it is within government circles, or within a family.

Those who are so trusting of the government just sing along:

    Who can take totalitarianism,
    Sprinkle it with dew?
Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two
The government can, the government can,
The government can 'cause it mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good.

I believe the tune is "Candy Man" sung by Sammy Davis Jr.

I don't trust the government. But I also don't like having people like this Assange character leaking information for his own gain. There is some middle ground, contrary to what you so-called patriots and libertarians state.

Mr. Assange and other outlets published the information. They didn't leak it.

No one has suggested we do away with national security. No one has suggested the government can't have some secrets. If anyone is going to extremes here it's you.

We have a government in these United States today that demands to know every little detail in all our lives, from reading our emails, to tapping our phones, to tracking us with GPS devices in our phones and automobiles, it demands to know which websites we visit, what kinds and how much cheap foreign made junk we purchase at global mart, how much money we make, how much we spend, what we have in our bank accounts, what we spend our money on, what we watch on the tube, who we hang out with, it demands our medical records, it demands our children's DNA and fingerprints from birth, it demands to know which make and model of car we drive, who lives in our homes, how many there are and what their ages are, on and on it goes it demands to know more and more about us each every day it never ends.

And, as it's claiming this unquestionable right to know every detail of every facet of everything that goes on in each of ours lives it denies us any and all knowledge and information about itself and what's it's been up to anytime it wants by uttering two words??? You give me a break.

Listen, you want more sanity? That's easy become more sane. There's something wrong with this picture and it ain't us "so called patriots and libertarians" wanting to know the extent of the criminal activity this corupt government is engaged in either! If you really cared about this country you wouldn't be so bent on protecting the criminals in high places that are looting it and running into the ground!

The Embassy and State Department Cables

It should come as no surprise that David E. Sanger and his colleagues at the NYT centered their attention on a highly "selective" dissemination of the Wikileaks cables, focussing on areas which would support US foreign policy interests: Iran's nuclear program, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan's support of Al Qaeda, China's relations with North Korea, etc. These releases were then used as source material in NYT articles and commentary.

The Embassy and State Department cables released by Wikileaks were redacted and filtered. They were used for propaganda purposes. They do not constitute a complete and continuous set of memoranda.

From a selected list of cables, the leaks are being used to justify a foreign policy agenda. A case in point is Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program, which is the object of numerous State Department memos, as well as Saudi Arabia's support of Islamic terrorism. SOURCE

This "Wikileaks" thing is not just a leak of "secret" information by some "scumbag" looking for personal gain. This a corporate/government propaganda campaign meant to protect and further enrich those who profit from the bogus "war on terror", global armed conflict and the domestic militarized police/surveillance state being built up to keep us in line.
