The Defrocked Tea Room Chapel-closed

Mother used to give us hot tea with milk and sugar when we were sick.

I still drink the same when at dinner and a cup beverage is provided with the meal - with one small exception - sugar is out - fake sweet stuff in a blue pack is in - if no fake stuff in a blue pack - then I will use fake stuff in a pink pack - but the fake stuff in a pink pack leaves a bitter aftertaste in my mouth.

PS - I hate ice tea!!!

Moral of the story - there is none - I'm just a ramblin on!!!

Bro. Glen: I love Sun Tea too. I make a gallon a day!

Dan: My mother gave me warm tea with milk and sugar in it when I was sick too! But here is a milkshake for you (using Equal, of course).

What we say or do may seem insignificant, but kindness brings hope to the one who receives it. And I have discovered that the kindness I give returns to me multiplied, coming back to me from many different people and in many varied ways.

Psalm 118:22 says - "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone."

There is a story behind this verse, though it is not in the Bible. It is a two-thousand-year-old tradition that has come down to us from the time of the building of Solomon's temple in Jerusalem. The stones for that temple were quarried away from the temple site, according to detailed plans supplied by the temple architects, and they were transported to the temple site and assembled there without the noise of stonecutting tools. Early in the construction a stone was sent that did not seem to fit the temple. Since the builders did not know what to do with it, they laid it aside and forgot it. Later, when they were ready to place a large capstone on the now nearly completed structure and sent to the quarry for it, they were told that it was not there, that it had already been sent up. The builders searched for it and eventually found the stone that had been laid aside. When they lifted it to its proper place in the building, it fit perfectly.

Thus, "the stone the builders rejected [became] the capstone."

Jesus quoted this verse from Psalm 118 once when he was speaking to the religious leaders who were looking for ways to arrest Him. He had told two stories meant to expose their hardhearted rejection of Him. In the first they were portrayed as a son who said he would work in the father's vineyard but did not do it. In the second they were portrayed as wicked tenants of a rich man's field, who plotted to steal it and eventually killed the heir. When he had finished these stories, Jesus said, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?" (Matt 21:42; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17).

The disciples seem to have heard this, because later Peter quoted the verse in the same way and with the same application when he and John were put on trial before the Sanhedrin following Jesus' resurrection and ascension. Peter told the religious leaders, "Jesus Christ of Nazareth...is 'the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone'" (Acts 4:10-11).

My application: Our loving Heavenly Father is building a building right now. The "stones" are being quarried here on earth - in this age - the Church Age. All the "noise" of the quarrying is being done here on earth. Sometimes the noise is very loud - and not so pleasing to our Father - as we fight the Master Cutters tooling of us; sometimes the noise is not so loud - as we submit to the molding the Father puts us through - so that we may become conformed to the image of His precious Son - our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

But this I am assured of - when we see Him face to face - when each of us takes our place in eternal service to our Savior - the building will be complete - we will be part of His body - and the only noise will be the everlasting praises we sing ( southern gospel and maybe gospel blue grass) to the Lamb Who was slain; to the Lamb Who paid the price; to save us from our wretched foul sin.

I am anxiously awaiting that day!!!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

God has given me priceless gifts, treasures of the heart, that enrich my life and help me enrich the lives of others.

These treasures include love and understanding that encourage me to honor the diversity of life. I try to think, say, and do whatever upholds the goodness of God being expressed in unique and wondrous ways by creations of God.

Also among my treasures are compassion and forgiveness. If a misunderstanding should occur between another person and myself, I call on the spirit of God to help me keep the lines of communication open. Remaining calm and focused on God's loving presence, I am willng to do my part in healing our relationship.
