    Gekko,

Okay here is one moral law for ya... Thou shalt not kill!

Love thy neighbor as thyself... is it OKAY to kill YOURSELF??

slowly, day by day, making yourself sick and taking off possibly years of your life by an improper diet?

1Cor:3:17: If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1Cor:6:19: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Remember when Jesus BROADENED the law (actually it was always that way though) and said our righteousness had to EXCEED that of the Pharisees?

He said you have heard thou shalt not kill but Im telling you dont even be angry with your neighbor, and etc..

Thou shalt not kill doesnt just mean dont go out and shoot your neighbor, it means not to destroy your own body as well...
3Jn:1:2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Reckless behavior isnt good either. The devil told Jesus to go throw Himself off a building and even quoted Scriptures!

But Jesus said, No Im not going to carelessly throw myself off this building expecting God to catch me with His angels...thou shalt not tempt the Lord your God.

Dont stick water in your gas tank and expect not to reap what you have sown.

I began laying off the pork and catfish. My health problems began to clear up. No longer as sickly as I used to be. Every once in a while I might slip (i.e. a bite of Pepperoni pizza for instance). </font>[/QUOTE]Excellent, good for you! and as you get older your body is less able to fight off the ill effects of these things and you can get diseases never suspecting these foods were the real cause of it.

God does things for a reason, you know? He knows what He's talking about... and as time goes by the medical world is discovering that fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are the very best thing for you. People are realizing things about cholesterol and heart attacks, etc..

Enjoying reading this thread...as I eat my whole-grain bread, bacon and egg sandwich with a glass of OJ.

I guess I only like myself a little bit.

Yes, I really like my Whole Grain Breads...

With lots of spread on it! [IMG]

And, let's see I had a Sausgae, Egg & Cheese bisquit for breakfast...

Two packs of nabs for mid morning snack...

Three cups of Tea, so far...

And! A can of Coca Cola!

And, I feel pretty perky right now. :D

The real reason for enforcing dietary laws is to keep the *other* person from beating you home!

Of course... Without Grace... They won't make it there no matter how many dietary laws they keep...

    Mike Sr.
Phillipians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

    This is moderate for me...

I used to drink three or four sodas by ten AM...

When did rats become a staple?

By the way, has anyone ever raised hogs? They can be a very clean animal. It's people who throw garbage at them to consume. They even find the lowest spot in their pen to defecate, and only roll in mud to keep the insects off their bodies and to keep tem cool.

I would love to buy English pork pies in Canada, but sadly they were banned because of a disease that hit pigs in England.........sigh!

    Cheers,

    Jim

    "Food nazis" scare me.

I'm height/weight proportionate, have a resting pulse of 48, BP of 95/60, and have a personal best in the 5K of 18:49. Nearly four years ago, after gaining weight for several years, I lost 75 pounds.

Having said that, if I want a Wendy's frosty, I get one. I don't eat four every day, though.
Common sense will get you a long way. There's a healthy middle ground.

I enjoy the mental gymnastics done by some to explain away Peter's dream.

We had a banquet for our high-school students, honoring their graduates and parents the other night. Our cook was a former gourmet chef who goes to our church.

    The menu:
    Braised pork center-cut tenderloin
    Hashbrown casserole
    Green beans
    French bread
    variety of pastries

Yep. We're all going to hell.

I think rather than being so-called "Food nazis" we are all just expressing our views on a certain subject just like you are. Nobody is forcing you to view it in the same way, at least from what I can see.

    Claudia,

The way you present it...yes, I agree...you're just putting forth your views.

    But Bobryan's "rat-catburger" perjoratives reek of foodnazi-ism.

I lived with one for a while. Scary.

    Trichina larvae

You can buy Grade A Beef. Do you know why there isnt any such thing as grading pork?

The Department of Agriculture does not grade pork that way. Instead they print flyers
warning you to make sure to cook the pork real good because it has trichina larvae in it
and so you make want to make really sure you exterminate all of it.

Trichina Larva is a little cyst that hatches after people eat it and it enters the digestive
system through the small intestine. Then they lodge in muscles and joints.

One out of five people in North America that they have done autopsys on have had
    evidence of trichina contamination.

You’d be surprised how many people are struggling with things like arthritis and bursitis
    when really they have hogitis.

So if you all want to eat a plate of Trichina Larvae for breakfast thats up to you but personally I think I will pass on it. I dont want to play Russian Roulette with my body.

And you know, alot of people smoke cigarettes and boast how healthy they are but then one day mother nature just cant fight it off anymore and BAM! They get lung cancer or emphysema...

I have learned to view it like this..

Think of your body as a "Bank".

Every time you treat your body well, you are making deposits, but every time you abuse your
body you are making a withdrawal.

Then one day unaware that all this time you have been really doing this... you get sick, like the flu or something else... and if you have not been making enough deposits... but instead have been making too many withdrawals... well, your body just might not be able to fight off what you have... and you'd never know what really killed you.

...It was all those years and years of abuse. You may not feel it now, but let me tell you, you'll be sorry for it later. And you wont ever know how much better you could be feeling right now if you'd take good care of yourself.

I am 79 years of age. How much longer do I have to wait? I have enjoyed pork all my life. Seldom ever ill.

There is mercury poisoning in fish to-day...a staple in biblical times. At one time fish could be eaten raw, but to-day must be well cooked. So, we adjust to modern circumstances.

I agree that a good diet is essential, but it mostly consists of pushing away from the table sooner and using smaller plates, plus eating more frequently.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Claudia...

Congratulations...you've made the jump to "food nazi."

You have told me what to do and assured me that you have the answers to any physical problems I have...without knowing me or my medical history.

You have spouted off statistics and rhetoric without any proof or documentation.

    I'll provide some...

    HERE

    AND HERE

    Hey...believe what you want.
But at least I provide documentation.

"Food nazis" that I have met are generally the most uptight individuals I run into. And if stress kills, that's a bad sign.

By the way, I'm having trouble understanding how Peter's dream is allegorical. But maybe that's just feeble-minded me.

In case anyone is wondering...I do plan on eating a (worm-free) HAM and swiss sandwich and a diet coke.

    rbell,

I got that information from Doug Batchelor, a religious speaker. The actual documentation wasnt there because it was ina spoken sermon. I dont want to bother with writing to him about it because I dont know that it would make any difference. But if you want to write for the documentation go to www.amazingfacts.com and ask them.

meanwhile, you can just go to www.google.com and find lots of information on it...

    http://www.trichinella.org/cit1.php?year1=1930&year2=1939

    http://www.emedicine.com/ped/byname/trichinosis.htm

    http://columbia.thefreedictionary.com/trichiniasis
    here's what that site says:

trichinosis (trĭk'ĭnō`sĭs) or trichiniasis (trĭk'ĭnī`osĭs), parasitic disease caused by the roundworm Trichinella spiralis. It follows the eating of raw or inadequately cooked meat, especially pork. The larvae are released, reach maturity, and mate in the intestines, the females producing live larvae. The parasites are then carried from the gastrointestinal tract by the bloodstream to various muscles, where they become encysted. It is estimated that 10% to 20% of the adult population of the United States suffers from trichinosis at some time. In many people the disease exhibits no symptoms and is discovered only at autopsy. In others it causes diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms as the worms multiply in the digestive tract. When the larvae circulate through the bloodstream, the patient experiences edema, irregular fever, profuse sweating, muscle soreness and pain, and prostration. There may be involvement of the central nervous system, heart, and lungs; death occurs in about 5% of clinical cases. Once the larvae have imbedded themselves in the muscle tissue, the cysts usually become calcified; however, the infestation usually causes no further symptoms except fatigue and vague muscular pains. There is no specific treatment.

This really just has been my small effort to try to protect you all though, honestly. So please dont think Im trying to condemn anybody.

Good. More pork for the rest of us.

I find it interesting that so many folks have trichinosis. According to our government stats, those numbers have been dropping like rocks.

In fact, only 3 cases were reported in 1986.
    SOURCE

In the USA, this problem has been "virtually elminated."

    USDA source

Claudia, if you were to know the ins and outs of virtually any food production, you would starve to death.

BTW my (worm-free) ham and (hole-y) Swiss sandwich was great, thanks for asking. :D

I don't smoke, I'm not overweight, and I exercise. I have a clear conscience about how I treat my body.

I travel to some third world countries where the hunting of wild boars is a common sport. If such meat is available I usually refrain (if possible) because I know of the dangers of trichinosis, especially if the meat is not cooked properly. In well cooked meat the chance of getting trichinosis is relatively low.
However in Canada and the U.S., all of our meat is treated before it even gets to the stores. It becomes virtually impossible to get trichinosis from any of the pork products in our nation. That objection becomes invalid.

In the northern areas, above the arctic circle, the natives (Eskimos) eat raw Caribou. How would that fit into your diet?
Perhaps God will call you to be a missionary there.
