I'd be interested to see polls that support your thesis regarding his defeating Bush or Kerry. What I saw was just the opposite.

In "Eyewitness to Power," Former Clinton aide David Gergen (regarding the great tension that is the Clinton personality vs. his ability) cited polls showing that 2/3 of Americans polled in 2000 would not have voted for a third Clinton term (p. 252). Polls are polls. Nothing more, nothing less.

While your link has some gaps, it does generally support your thesis that Clinton was popular. People always liked Clinton personally (save for his numbers after his first election, which were the lowest of any modern elected president according to Thomas Patterson (cf. "Out of Order"). People liked him at the conclusion of his second term, but not enough to give him another if possible. I count myself in that number.

His approval numbers naturally rose as a former president, as they tend to do for all former presidents (Cf. Nixon, Clinton, Bush 41). Heck, even Bush 43 will have decent numbers in about ten to fifteen years, given the short memories of the American electorate. :laugh:

A "genuine conservative" is exactly what is needed. None of the Republicans that have indicated they would run are "genuine conservatives" at all.

 

And if hubby Bill had not been elected President, Hillary would still be the backwater princess of Arkansas...and if Obama was not black, he'd just be another run of the mill junior Senator, or likely not a Senator at all.

The amazing thing about Hillary is how hard she'll have to work to show us who she isn't.

Heard yesterday on the radio that Hillary said she couldn't understand how a Christian could be anything but a Democrat. Something to do with Christ caring for the poor and downtrodden, and the Democrats being the only ones willing to provide all the services needed to help Him. Of course that entails governmental acquisition of maximum taxation, and her particular idea of how to array programs designed to allow mankind every necessary thing, so they won't have to depend of God. Of course this has the secondary benefit of taking the pressure off God, thus elevating herself to high sainthood. :smug smiley:

 

No one from Texas has any right to say anything about failed and lousy Presidents. Texas, thank you so much for your gift of Lyndon Baines Johnson and George W Bush to America. It enriched this country so much.

If you check you will find out that both LBJ and George W Bush carried the state of Kentucky in their respective elections.

Out of hundreds of polls, there's a 44, one 47, and one 48. The rest are all over 50%. Compare to Bush alone. Reagan's aren't that good. Carter's aren't. Neither Bush has such good figures.

If you'll check, you'll see that they are about what they were when he left office. Mid-60s.

I dunno, you're asking a lot of them, to forget all of that.

You are so correct. At the time of LBJ, I was living in Mississippi. And yes, I voted for Bush. It was a mistake, but there is no need to run from the fact.
