What are some daily activities you still do military style?

    For example
Spit shine boots, gig line - always wearing a hat, address someone as "Sir"
Hospital corners, hang clothes in your closet in order.....

I'm curious. For you who served in the military do you find it has been a help in your Christian life and if so in what ways?

When I lost my first wife and remarried going on fifteen years now... The woman I married had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many clothes and shoes there wasn't any room for mine:eek:... They taught me in the Marines to adapt... It's a good thing I brought my foot locker:D... I FINALLY got a small closet and shes got ALL the other closets, PLUS the walk-in:rolleyes:... Brother Glen:)

One of my friend said well Glen that's what happens when you marry a career woman!... I said well I didn't know her career was buying clothes:eek:

Once I arrived in Zweibruecken, Gy - I was attending the Air Force Chapel (Army Chapel was way to liberal) where we had a Methodist Chapel.
Until then, I did not fully realize that non-Baptists could be Bible Believers as well.

Yes, I believe so. Not only in my Christian life, but in life in general I believe it afforded me the opportunity to grow up without “crashing” due to my own stupidity.

The military also paid for my education. Since I chose seminary for graduate school this was a chance for me to learn and mature in my Christian life. The main advantage of seminary was that I was required to defend why I believed what I believed. I think it was C.S. Lewis that wrote of the time he learned we do not automatically have a right to a belief. So in this way, the military definitely helped me in my Christian life.

For me it was not a yes or no. Although I was a believer when i went in, I was immature spiritually. I got involved in lots of drinking when I was not in the jungle (Viet Nam). The language we all used was very profane. When I came back to the world, I continued drinking a lot. I started back to church and with the help of other vets and AA, I stopped drinking. But the church helped me to grow spiritually. God's grace was amazing to bring me back to Himself.

But the discipline we had to learn from basic to jump school to jungle warfare school, has helped me in the ministry. It taught me to wake up early and do the work that was necessary. It also taught me that the people to whom I preached and ministered were not going to be perfect and had messy lives. My job was to point them to Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to sanctify them.

These are just a few ways it helped.
