Its anniversary/birthday since they are the same day. I did not give out any money tracts as my wife did not want me to do so neither. Instead I gave the very professional and kind waiter this tract after I gave the tip.

You make assumptions. How do you know what the millions of people that use money tracts do with them? You know the last time I gave out a cash tip I also included a money tract in the cash so I gave a tract + cash for a tip. The Bible says to go out into all the world and preach the gospel to all of creation and so tracts are a great way to do so in our fast paced world. Many these days I have noticed do not want to debate, nor reason, nor discuss their beliefs since PostModernism is so dominate these days.

Evan did you read where Denver is considering banning street preachers or heavily taxing them?

Don't be ridiculous with your arguments John. I've not mentioned knowing what millions do, but what I've known some to do and that behavior is sinful and a bad witness. :praying:

Why is not using a tract equated with not sharing the Gospel? Did Jesus use tracts? John? Paul? Peter? Titus? Did anyone in the Word of God use tracts? Did Spurgeon? Did Billy Sunday? Why must one use tracts at all? I personally don't like them and get annoyed if one is given to me and I'm saved! I think it's cheap, a shortcut, doesn't address the person's place in their lives and honestly, has no ability to disciple a person. I believe in personal contact, not giving them something they most likely will be annoyed at and thrown away.

They have their place Ann. We can't literally stop and talk to every person we meet, that would be impossible. But you can hand a tract to someone you only have a moment to talk to.

Years ago I used to talk to this young fellow at work about Jesus when I had a chance, but we are not paid to talk at work. I handed him a tract to read.

A few months later I got a chance to talk to him again and told him he needed to trust Jesus to save him. He said, "I already did that". I was amazed and asked him when he did that. He said, "When you gave me that tract the first time. I read it, and it said I could pray to Jesus and trust him to save me. I did that."

I was completely amazed when he told me this. Then he said, "What do you think? that I'm stupid? I don't want to go to hell when I die!"

So, in certain circumstances tracts can be good. And if only one person reads a tract and gets saved, it was worth it.

Amen! That's not Evan6589's style. He prefers the impersonal methods - - yelling to crowds on street corners, anonymously leaving tracts, posting on forums behind screen names, quizzing strangers on the 10 commandments, etc.

    Oh well...

Allow me to clarify further: we're NOT saying don't use tracts at all; we're trying to encourage you not to use money tracts, or other deceptive practices.

    ---

Now, a question for evangelist, that is related to this subject even though it might not seem so at first: who do you disciple?

Because I have to say, the way of the master--Jesus--was to gather men to Him, train them, disciple them, and prepare them to do the same. John the Baptist was an open-air preacher/baptizer....

Cite a recent source and not something from 2008.

Was the printing press around in the 1st century?

    Some good use of tracts

    http://www.onemilliontracts.com/whytracts.shtml

They are a very economical form of evangelism
    They work while we sleep
They have the ability to get into a house and stay there
They are never afraid or show cowardice
They are never tempted to compromise their message
They never get tired, discouraged or give up
They stick to what they have to say and never argue
They can present the message when don't have time
They can go to places where we cannot
They get people in the mood – they only speak when they are read

See, that's when I give them my e-mail address or other contact information. I prefer to give the Gospel in person - person to person. This way I can answer any questions, help them find a good church to get into and maybe give them a good beginner Bible study guide like The Walk.

People need to REPENT of their sins first before they can be discipled. Also lets imagine you go to the grocery store, walk in the downtown area of your city and go to restaurants. How many of these souls actually have the time to sit and chat with you?

LOL, there was no internet when this happened, and no e-mail.

You young folks think the internet always existed don't you?

Edit- Oh, and I might add, this young fellow was from a biker family. Rough around the edges doesn't even come close to describing him. His parents were tough people.

If you are up to the challenge I will send you a extra book that I have called Faith Works and we can have a debate. I have the revised edition called The Gospel According to the Apostles, but Faith Works is the same book with the same content. You interested?

Thank you, but no thank you, I won't read it.

We can debate right now, start a thread and I will join in.

I'm not THAT young but thanks for the compliment.

There's been phones for as long as I've been alive though! Before that, we just took the time to spend it with people. :)
