I received a free copy in the mail today of the Recovery Version of the NT by Living Stream Ministry distributed by Bibles For America.

Anyone else get this? Anyone have any good information on this?

    Living Stream Ministry

Living Stream Ministry publishes the works of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, providing the authoritative and definitive collections of treasures from these two servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. The writings of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee focus on the enjoyment of the divine life, which all the believers possess, and on the building up of the church, the goal of God's work with man in this age.

This is what I found when I Googled Living Stream Ministry. Hope this helps.

I have a copy of the Recovery Version NT. The footnotes were written by Witness Lee, and there are some strange interpretations such as the footnote for Revelation 2:9 on page 1,247, which states that Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and Judaism became "an organization of Satan as a tool to damage God's economy."

The footnote for Revelation 17:8 states, "The beast, who is Antichrist, "was" in the person of Caesar Nero before John wrote this book. He "is not" at the time of John's writing, because Nero had died by that time. That he "is about to come up about of the abyss" implies that Nero's spirit is now in the abyss and is about to emerge from it to take possession of the body of the slain and resuscitated Antichrist, and inidicated in 13.3."

The footnote for Revelation 1:11 states that there should be one local church for each city and church's jurisdiction covers the whole city. "All the believers within that boundary should constitute the one unique local church within that city."

I personally wouldn't put any stock in Witness Lee's teachings.

    Good Quote

I would say that this particular insight should be considered. This is actually the N.T. Biblical model and we have so Americanized things that we have forgotten that one church actively obedient to the the Word of God should be able to accomplish what, in some cities, hundreds of churches, of the same denomination and even style in many cases, have been unable to accomplish.

I would not dismiss this quote.

I also have a copy of The Recovery Version, although I have barely looked at it.

Watchman Nee's name seems to be a literal variation of his Chinese name (meaning a watchman's knocker sounded to mark the hours of night); though he seemed to feel that he stayed awake (while others slept in the night) in order to alert men of the coming Christ.

Watchman Nee (Born: 1903 in Foochow, China; Died: 1972 in Anhwei province, China) became a "saved" Christian in 1920 through the ministry of Protestant missionaries. He was self taught through veracious reading (possibly 3,000 classic Christian works). He was influenced by Darby and others, which explains the Brethren-like postion on the local church. He may have helped established 700 local congregations during a period of religious oppression in China (1940-1960).

According to one source Watchman Nee believed and taught othodox Christian faith (verbal inspiration of the Bible and that the Bible is God’s holy Word; God is triune; that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, even God Himself, incarnate; that He died on the cross to accomplish redemption; that He rose bodily from the dead on the third day; that He will return the second time; and He will esatblish a millennial kingdom on the earth.)

His best known follower is Witness Lee. Lee essentially escaped to Taiwan just prior to Nee being imprisoned by the mainland Communist regime. Lee died in prison after 20 years.

His best-known book is The Normal Christian Life (available free online at CCEL). The book has been based on speeches that Watchman Nee around a Europe tour in 1938-1939. Besides the Living Stream outlet, many of his books are available from Christian Fellowship Publishers (a Stephen Kaung ministry). Try these if you want to know more--

Yes I would dismiss it. When Witness Lee said "local church," he meant his movement, The Local Church: http://www.apologeticsindex.org/l00.html

    Scroll down to Lee, Witness.

It also adds support to the ME theology when it translates the phrase "Kingdom of Heaven" to "Kingdom of Heavens"

Also if you read some of the study notes on Baptism, it teaches salvation through Baptism.

    ME proponents love Witness Lee.

    Just some interesting connections...

I believe you mean Watchman Nee died in prison in 1972 after 20 years, not Witness Lee.
