Ok, I have a lot of Christian friends on another group that can't stand the Passion Conference.

Here is a link to a snapshot of it:

Their critiques make sense to me. That it is narcissistic, emotionally manipulative, worldly and carnal instead of worshipful, is a poor representation of the Gospel, obsessed with being cool like a pop concert, and lacks emphasis on scripture.

That said, I do get there are some really well meaning people here like John Piper and Ravi Zacharias. We are told to not tell such people to stop their work for Christ in Mark 9:38-41, but it seems from scripture that we must point out the errors in this. Namely the worldliness and carnality of the event, like so many things marketed to the youth and young adults. Allowing women preachers to teach men in a gathering of the Holy people. And emphasizing emotion instead of scripture in the teaching.

What do you think of the Passion Conference?

Its not my type thing, but I dont know enough about some of the speakers to say for sure. A couple are sound, a few are sketchy. I guess you could probably do worse with your time

    Are they Charismatic based ministries?
Would they fall under so called "Strange Fire?"

Dr. Peter Masters of London's Metropolitan Tabernacle Baptist Church has noted the worldliness of these conferences:

"the Passion conference...young people revelled in contemporary music, and listened to speakers such as John Piper proclaiming Calvinistic sentiments....syncretism....uniting the doctrines of grace with the immoral drug-induced musical forms of worldly culture."

"worldly, sensation-stirring, high-decibel, rhythmic music, is mixed with Calvinistic doctrine....The new Calvinists constantly extol the Puritans, but they do not want to worship or live as they did. One of the vaunted new conferences is called Resolved....Resolved is the brainchild of a member of Dr John MacArthur's pastoral staff, gathering thousands of young people annually, and featuring the usual mix of Calvinism and extreme charismatic-style worship."

This sounds like some trying to judge worship style of music, is that not under preferences andconvictions though?

They are not Charismatic to my knowledge in terms of doctrine. They do seem to use the same music as Charismatics.

My other friends mainly complain of the spirit of the event. I'll list some again: The worldliness and carnality of the event, like so many things marketed to the youth and young adults. Allowing women preachers to teach men in a gathering of the Holy people. And emphasizing emotion instead of scripture in the teaching.

Don't know anything about it other than the clip you posted. It does not give me a good impression. Paul said, "And my speech and my preaching was not with 'enticing lights of man’s display of fireworks,' but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power." Or something like that.

Sounds about like what Jimmy Swaggart was saying about CCM in the late 80's. I wonder if maybe the reason he hated CCM so bad was because the hookers he was using didnt like it???

Sounds like some old time religion folks having a cow over music and worship not their cup of tea!

I would recommend researching it. Take a look see what it's all about. I could pick apart the video which was a little annoying, but hey, it may have some good in it. Hopefully it's not more of the social justice nonsense that infiltrating the Church, but hard to tell from some short clips.

Could it be "new Calvinism", as some old line Calvinists take big exceptions to current 'worldly" music used by those in new cal camp!

Good theology good thoughtful application of theology is my only issue. Yes, some of the lyrics are dreadful these days. Music style I'm fine with, if the lyrics aren't too strange. Like that stupid hurricane love song.

Yeah, with the rise of the great Charismatic artists it really is getting harder to find good songs without bad lyrics. My church seems to have given up and gone back to hymns, choir music, and classical music.

Believe that God still gifts among us today his bach or Mozart, just might have to accept that their style of songs might not be to our liking!

Yeshua1, I think it goes much deeper than that. Jesus is not our romantic lover, and Charismaticism is a lie. Any lyrics that point us to a romantic or erotic relationship with Jesus are wrong. Any songs that point us to Charismatic . Although, I do get your point. Maybe I come down hard on rock and roll Christian music because it is typically so worldly or has bad doctrine usually, but that doesn't mean always.

One problem I know many friends at another group have is that they must have their church pay money to use Charismatic songs in worship. Money that goes into the coffers of those perverting the Gospel.

I am just suggesting that while the message stays the same, how we put into beat and tempo can change....

    Yep, that's the song! LOL.

So the music leadership at my Church actually changed the lyrics on that song to make it acceptable. At least they're paying attention.

Really annoying song though. Hoping to never hear it again.
