Want to know when a war is worth fighting? Then make it law that any elected federal office holder's children (age 18-25) must serve in the military for 3 years.

Spoken like a true liberal: punish one group because you disagree with the politics of another group.

So, tell us, why do you believe that these adult, American citizens shouldn't have the same rights as all other American citizens?

Mike McK...I don't think my position is a liberal or conservative one. Personally, I think we as a society are fooling ourselves by talking about being "in war" or "at war" when the vast majority of us are not making any sacrifice to speak of. We're paying more for gas and waiting longer in airport lines..that's about it. Many of us like to sit back and complain about the oil companies sticking it to us, when the government is making much more profit off a gallon of gas than the oil companies could ever think about.

A country "at war" makes sacrifices. How much different is life for us now than on 9/11/2001? Not a whole lot. No rations, no mandatory draft, no sacrifices. No groundswell of patriotic men volunteering to fight the enemy. Many are 18-25 volunteering now because they have no job or no plans for college, or feel like the best way to pay for college is the GI Bill. The military takes men up to 42 now in some cases, if its such a vital war in Iraq, where are the volunteers? Sitting back talking about how we need to send other young men to kick butt for the most part.

If the ones who make the decision to invade and cause war had sons in the military, they might be a little bit more cautious. If a mandatory draft came back, and all young people 18-25 were subject to it, all of us might be a little less bombastic.
